Beautiful Sunday: Wat Samphraya on a cloudy day, ไปวัดสามพระยาทำบุญวันพระ

This is my entry for #beautifulsunday hosted by @ace108. Yesterday was another hot and humid day. I have meant to visit an old temple since last week but I wasn’t anywhere near one. Last weekend was a very important Buddhist holy day of Visakha Puja. The day which happened to be the birthday of the Buddha, the day of enlightenment and the day of the Buddha’s death. Yesterday was the day of the cremation of the Buddha or the Attamee Puja.

I like to visit this temple as it has ample parking area, many big old trees and quiet atmosphere. Wat Samphraya was built during Ayutthaya period but it was rebuilt by three brothers who held high ranking positions during the reign of King Rama III. The three brothers offered the newly built temple to the King, so the King renamed the temple “Sam Phraya” meaning the temple of three Phraya (Phraya is similar to an Earl).

วันอาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมา เราไปทำบุญที่วัดสามพระยาในเขตบางขุนพรหม ใกล้ๆกับธนาคารแห่งประเทศไทย เสาร์ที่แล้วเป็นวันวิสาขบูชา ส่วนวันอาทิตย์นี้เป็นวันที่มีการปลงพระศพของพระพุทธเจ้า คือหลังจากพระองค์ปรินิพพานแล้วเจ็ดวัน เรียกว่าวันอัฏฐมีบูชา บางวัดจะมีการเดินเวียนเทียน และมีการแสดงธรรมโดยพระจะเทศน์ในโบสถ์ เราไปถึงวัดบ่ายมากแล้ว ลมแรงมีเมฆมาก ทำให้อากาศเย็นลงเร็วมาก

วัดนี่เป็นวัดเก่าแก่มีมาตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา แต่ขาดการทำนุบำรุง จนสามพี่น้องที่เป็นพระยา รับราขการในรัชกาลที่ 3 ได้ช่วยกันสร้างวัดใหม่ แล้วถวายให้ในหลวงรัชกาลที่3 วัดนี้จึงได้ขื่อใหม่ว่าวัดสามพระยา สถาปัตยกรรมเป็นแบบกึ่งจีน มีรูปปั้นเก่าจากจีนอยู่รอบวัด ที่นี่มีที่จอดรถกว้าง มีต้นไม้ใหญ่หลายสิบต้น มีบรรยากาศเงียบสงบ เหมาะสำหรับไปนั่งเงียบๆ
