Beautiful Sunday: new orchid blossoms in my garden, กล้วยไม้ออกดอกในสวน

This Sunday I have been very busy in my garden. I have a group of people coming to repair the lamps and cut branches from those big trees.

The work started early in the morning and I had to tell them which branches to be cut down from each tree. The unexpected thing is that there were so many red ants on trees. We disturbed them while sawing off those branches. So, we all got bitten by fierce big red ants! I really don’t like them at all, their bites are very sharp! Having to look at each tree carefully, I could spot several new orchid blossoms. But this year all the orchids seem to get smaller as I forgot give them any fertiliser.

Those lamps around the garden are now quite worn out by rain and sunshine. Small black ants like to make their nests inside the switch boxes, so this could cause the lamp malfunction. These people are very efficient as they could check and replace light bulbs around the garden in an hour. I am a bit ambivalent about LED light bulbs. My electrician insists on buying me these light bulbs. But I know this light bulb is not good for our health. I could hardly find the old types of light bulbs in big shops. I try to use the LED bulbs with very low wattage.

Now the back of the garden looks much better and brighter. Those big indigenous or forest trees tend to grow very big with wide span of branches and thick leaves. I have to make sure there is enough sunlight for my mango trees and orchids. Beside, I don’t want big snakes to come to make their home here! So far we have seen three snakes in the garden. My gardener just saw a green snake strangling a gecko the other day! Life is normally very quiet and peaceful here on Sundays.

วันอาทิตย์ที่ผ่านมา เรามีงานเต็มมือตั้งแต่เช้าเพราะต้องเรียกช่าง มาช่วยซ่อมไฟส่องสว่างที่อยู่รอบๆสวน หลายจุดไม่มีแสงไฟตอนกลางคืน และที่สำคัญคือต้องให้คนมาช่วยตัดกิ่งไม้ในสวนหลังบ้านซึ่งกำลังจะกลายเป็นป่าขนาดย่อม ต้นประดู่ป่าโตเร็วมาก มันแผ่กิ่งก้านสาขาไปยาวและมีใบหนาแน่น ทำให้ต้นมะม่วงไม่โดนแดดจึงไม่ค่อยออกดอก และกล้วยไม้ไม่ค่อยโดนแดดด้วย อากาศเย็นสบายเหมาะกับการทำงานในสวนมาก แต่ที่แย่คือเราไปกวนรังมดแดงที่มีอยู่ตามยอดต้นไม้ มันออกมากัดพวกเราทุกคน เราไม่ชอบเจ้ามดตะนอยมาก มันกัดได้เจ็บแบบแหลมคมจนเราต้องให้ตัดกิ่งไม้ที่มีรังมดไปทิ้งที่ทุ่งข้างบ้าน ปล่อยให้วัวจัดการกินเสียเลย

เราเดินดูต้นไม้ไปก็เจอกล้วยไม้แอบออกดอกกันเงียบๆ เราคิดว่าต้องรอถึงเดือนหน้าจึงจะได้เห็นดอก ปีนี้มาเร็วแต่ดอกเล็กลงมาก เพราะเราไม่ได้ใส่ปุ๋ยให้เลย ปล่อยให้เทวดาช่วยดูแลให้ตลอด นอกจากนี้ก็ต้องเปลี่ยนหลอดไฟตามโคมไฟรอบสวน มันทนแดดทนฝนมาหลายพรรษาแล้ว ช่างก็จัดการเปลี่ยนหลอดไฟที่ขาด และเราให้เปลี่ยนโคมไฟใหญ่หนึ่งจุด เพื่อให้ติดตั้งระบบปิดเปิดอัตโนมัติตามแสงอาทิตย์ ตอนนี้สวนหลังบ้านแลดูโปร่งและสบายตามากขึ้น แต่ก่อนมันทึบเหมือนป่ามากไป และเราไม่อยากให้พวกงูใหญ่อย่างงูเหลือมมาอยู่แถวนี้ เรามีแมวห้าตัวกำลังน่ารักมาก คนสวนพึ่งเจองูเขียวเล่นงานตุ๊กแกหลังบ้าน เราเห็นงูประจำสวนสองตัว เป็นงูเขียวสองตัว และมีงูสิงห์แวะมาบ้าง อากาศเริ่มหนาวและลมแรงมาจากทิศเหนือ เราต้องคิดหาตำแหน่งสำหรับปลูกต้นไม้ต่อไป
