Beautiful Sunday: Kwan Yin Shrine in China town,ไปศาลเจ้าแม่กวนอิมที่เยาวราช

This is my entry for #beautifulsunday hosted by @ace108. Bangkok is still quite hot and cloudy but with strong wind blowing all the clouds away. So, I decided to visit the old shrine in China town or Yaowarad Road.

This Kwan Yin Shrine is 116 years old situated in the Thian Fa Hospital. The hospital and foundation were set up with the donation of six Chinese merchants during the reign of King Rama V. The King came to perform the opening ceremony on the 19th September 1903, he also donated 100 Changs of silver to the hospital.

This Sunday the shrine hall and the area around the shrine are cluttered with boxes of donations such as bags of rice, bottled waters, dried noodles, etc. Chinese people in the area have been preparing for the annual day of merit making at the end of August. I am very impressed by these people’s dedication and respect to this Kwan Yin Shrine.

The Kwan Yin statue was made from sandal wood and is carved with the style during the Tang Dynasty in China. It is estimated to be about 900 years old! This Kwan Yin was originally in a temple in Hernan area and had been invited to Siam over a hundred years ago. The migrated Chinese people needed some sacred spiritual symbol to support their new beginnings in Siam.

The hospital was set up by the rich merchants to look after poor Chinese immigrants who could not even speak the local language. This hospital also offers traditional Chinese herbal medicine and modern Western treatments free for all poor people. This Kwan Yin is very sacred to the Chinese especially when they are sick. They would come to pray for quick recovery and good health! The energy inside the shrine hall when empty is always very refreshing and healing to me!

วันอาทิตย์นี้เราไปเดินเล่นที่ถนนเยาวราช หลังจากที่ห่างหายไปนานมาก เราลงรถเมล์ที่มูลนิธิเทียนฟ้าที่มี ทั้งโรงพยาบาลและ ศาลเจ้าแม่กวนอิม ที่ดินประมาณสองไร่ครึ่งซื้อได้จากการลงขันของคหบดีจีนหกคนที่ต้องการให้คนจีนที่ย้ายถิ่นฐาน มาเริ่มต้นชีวิตใหม่ในสยามได้มีที่พึ่งในยามเจ็บป่วย จึงได้ช่วยกันสร้างโรงพยาบาล และศาลเจ้าแม่กวนอิมเพื่อเป็นที่ยึดเหนี่ยวและที่พึ่งทางจิตใจให้กับคนจีนที่เจ็บป่วย ในหลวงรัขกาลที่5 ได้ให้การสนับสนุน ได้เสด็จพระราชดำเนินมาทำพิธีเปิดเมื่อ วันที่ 19 กันยายน 2446 เมื่อ116ปีที่แล้ว และพระราชทานเงิน 100ชั่ง เพื่อให้แก่โรงพยาบาลเทียนฟ้าด้วย

รูปเจ้าแม่กวนอิม ทำจากไม้จันทน์หอมแกะสลักตามแบบที่นิยมใน สมัยราชวงศ์ถัง และท่านเคยประดิษฐานอยู่ในวัดจีนที่มณฑลเหอหนาน อายุของรูปแกะสลักก็ประมาณ900ปี ท่านจึงมีพลังแรงมากนั่นเอง ที่โรงพยาบาลเทียนฟ้ามีการรักษาแบบสมุนไพรจีนโบราณ และแบบตะวันตกที่ทันสมัย โดยรักษาฟรีให้กับคนจน คนจีนที่เจ็บป่วยมักจะมากราบเจ้าแม่กวนอิม เพื่อขอพรให้หายป่วยโดยเร็ว และขอให้มีสุขภาพแข็งแรง

ตอนที่เราไปนี่ แทบจะไม่มีที่ว่างในศาลา เพราะว่าคนจีนต่างส่งของมาร่วมทำบุญประจำปีกันมากมาย มีข้าวหลายร้อยถุง นํ้าเป็นพันๆขวด และอาหารแห้งอีกหลายร้อยกล่อง คนจีนมีความเคารพศรัทธาเจ้าแม่กวนอิมมาก เราก็พึ่งจะได้เห็นประจักษ์ในครั้งนี้ เราชอบมานั่งเงียบๆในศาลาในวันที่ไม่ค่อยมีผู้คน พลังของเจ้าแม่กวนอิมดีมากและเต็มไปด้วยเมตตา
