How switching to eSteem app made my life easier

Why eSteem app

Things got better

When I tell people about eSteem app, after @janine-ariane introduced me to it, many of them tell me they tried it a few months ago and were not at all pleased. It didn't work at all, and if it worked they didn't like the idea of entering their Master Key. For those people, read on, things have changed.

Late adopter

Since I don't like apps in general and don't use my mobile phone as a computer, I never looked at any of the apps that make performing certain tasks on Steemit.com easier. I am all about desktop programs/apps.

There is some functionality missing on Steemit.com especially where it concerns interacting, keeping track of your friends. That is what made me look for something else.

I was very happy to find a desktop version of eSteem on github, that one unfortunately didn't work. After starting the app, all that happened was a loading icon. I could understand people who walked away from that system. But I didn't want to give up that easy. Some more browsing and searching led to another link, not sure why this one didn't show up before. Different download, let's give it a try.

First impression

Installs fine, loads fine, doesn't ask for any keys yet, but where is my blog? My feed is there. Ah found it, just like Steemit, a menu shows up when you click your avatar, the profile option is your overview of blog, comments and so on. But there is more.

As you can see in the menu there is also:

  • Bookmarks
  • Favorites
  • Drafts
  • Schedules
  • Gallery
  • Login As

These are all things that will make your blogging life easier. I know it does that for me.

Bookmarks

Use bookmarks to save a post you want to take a closer look at later on.

Favorites

Add someone, whose activities you want to track closely, to your list of favorites. This will give you easy access to their content. No need to browse your feed, or typ their name in the address bar, just select them from your list of favorites.

Drafts

Have a great idea but no time to write the whole post right away, save it as a draft and back to it later. Or save a template as draft and use it whenever you want. This will come in handy when posting my contest posts.

Schedules

Plan your publishing moment. If you want to keep a steady flow of publishing content but you are out tomorrow. Create your post and schedule when to plublish it.

Gallery

The gallery will hold the images you want to use frequently. Easy access is key here.

Login As

This is great for those who own multiple accounts. You can manage them easily within the app.

Profile menu

As you can see, there is not just the usual stuff, there is also 'Activities'. This part alone would be enough for me to use this app.

Within this part of the app you get an overview of:

  • Votes
  • Replies
  • Mentions
  • Follows
  • Reblogs
  • Leaderboard

Votes

An overview of the votes casted on your posts and comments (with %).

Replies

This seems redundant because there is already a Replies option in the main menu. This overview lists the replies without clutter. This makes browsing them easier.

Mentions

Find out who is talking about you. A list of posts that mention your name.

Follows

Who started, or stopped, following you. A per day overview. Easy way to check if you want to follow back.

Reblogs

This overview shows who resteemed your posts.

Leaderboard

Not sure but this probably is the list of users by most posts created by eSteem app.

And there is still more

How about finding out what each vote, casted on your post, is worth? You can check that in the Blog screen by clicking the voters-icon. The overview lists, username and rep, money involved, percentage involved, time. These columns can be reordered.

Nothing bad?

Not bad, but still something you should know. When you use the app to publish your post, eSteem app will claim 5% of your reward., automatically.

Now that sounds worse than it is. First of all, this is a great app, someone is putting time in developing and maintaining this, it is fair to reward them. And 5% of what you are going to receive is fair. Second, once a day, if they like your content, they will upvote your post. These are good upvotes, your post payout will probably higher than average.

There still more

We haven't even talked about the Editor yet. We'll leave that for another post.

Download

Go to www.esteem.app, click download, select Desktop, IOS or Android and follow along.

For Windows 10 users you can download the 'eSteem.Surfer.Setup.1.0.3.exe.zip' one.

This is what is called extraordinary steemit

I am so happy you like it too! I now convinced 2 more people i so far only use it on my phone, whitch I love like I told you. I have downloaded the pc app but that is not right so I will compare yours with mine. I did discover that i some where have crossed on something I rather not have and that is email notification, but once i will find the right strain of brain again to put that off! I am happy that someone who knows so much about this stuff agrees with me :-)

Thanks again for introducing me to the app. It works great. Not sure why the wrong app link somehow gets favored when looking for the download.

Follow my download instructions and you should be fine.

The emailnotification system is probably a mobile phone feature, I have not found that one in the desktop app yet, but will let you know when I do.

thank you!! I let you know when it works. :-)

Thanks for sharing, sound like a great help indeed. I'll check out whether eSteem is something for me as well.

I have not covered all interesting features, but it sure is worth taking a look at this app. I just love they made the effort to develop a desktop version.

After reading that some things actually have changed ... I decided to give it a go for my @shepherd-stories account. And guess what? I'm happy I did give it a try, because now it's a stay for "The Shepherds". Thanks to the app I can now use both of my accounts at the same time in an easy way, without having to login, logout, login, logout ... just as easy! Thanks for this post!

Thanks for your reply. I don't have multiple accounts but I guessed it made life easier for those who do. Often when going from one page to the other Steemit logs you out even when using one account. Must be horrible when you have more.

What I really like ... I see it now that I open the app with this account, is the fact that you can set it in Euro's. And you have a slider for voting for what I see. Even if you're way beneath that 500 sp.

on your phone?? Hahaha I was happy with what I found and knew how to work with it, and now after boosting out how good I find it I learn so much more about the app ! haha

I never use my old phone for steemit ... hahaha. It is a smartphone, but a really oldie. Android 4.1 on it and nothing fancy ... so no, really on my desktop! I'm always using my desktop. Big screen so I see everything clearly and a real keyboard what's really handy for me ...

Yes, I noticed that too. It is on my list for the next post about eSteem :)

Had this app on my phone for two months now without using it. Like you I try to use my phone as a phone and nothing else. This post made me actually log in, though. I'll try it out to see if it suits me.

Would love to hear what you think about the app. I was a bit sceptical at first, but I am very happy with it now.

Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 17 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 19 SBD worth and should receive 105 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.
