The European Union's proposed copyright law prohibits the shutting down of Italian language website Wikipedia Italy
They say that in the law, the 'freedom of the Internet' will be threatened. On the other hand, the magazine owners say that this law is necessary to protect the future of journalism.
A Wikipedia spokesman said their Italian version would be closed for two days.
Their website is now written, 'Freedom of Internet Threat'.
The deputy prime minister of Italy's Five Star Movement, Luigi Di Myo, said he has full support for the protest.

He said to the news agency ANSA, "We hope that the representatives of the party in the European Parliament also agree with Myo."
Critics say that the European Union is planning to issue fresh restrictions on data licensing on the Internet, and IT companies will have to be more accountable to the police.
The European Parliament has to vote on the proposal for the law in the European Parliament on Thursday.
The European Parliament, however, says that Wikipedia will not be included in this law when studying in the Encyclopedia category.
But Wikipedia says this protest is in support of other organizations which will be affected by this law.
Kodioni said Wikipedia is fighting 'not just to save themselves, but to the Internet for the sake of free'.
