Freewrite Day 625 Mangy Calico Cat

We have calico cats in Kuala Lumpur, but most are not mangy. Some are, but for random cats in the world, the stray ones in Malaysia are surprisingly healthy. People here love them, call to them, feed them, and coo over them.

The cats of Malaysia have no fear or interest in people unless you are bringing them food. They do not move or notice when you walk by closely and sometimes if they are in the way somewhere you can step right over them and they still won’t move.

We have no dogs though. For some reason I am not aware, this and other Muslim countries are not in favor of dogs.

Oddly enough, the situation in reversed in Thailand. There you rarely see cats, but dogs are everywhere.

The dogs of Thailand have no fear or interest in people unless you are bringing them food. They do not move or notice when you walk by closely, and sometimes when they are in the way somewhere you can step right over them and they still won’t move..

Before I got to Thailand, I was a video on yt with top tips for Thailand. The title was something like, “The Dogs of Thailand are Not Dead.” This was due to her seeing dogs lying all over the place and worried that they were dead. But if you go to check, they will open one eye to let you know they did not die while blocking the door to the 711. They are resting there to get cool air and food.

The cats blocking doors in Malaysia are not dead either, even if the are mangy and calico.

My post is for the #freewrite daily challenge by @mariannewest. Freewrite is a great way to post on STEEM when you do not think you have the time, or talent, or anything to say. It’s a great way to start regular posting, and I know you can do this too! Here is Marianne’s freewrite prompt post for today. Give it a try and surprise yourself.

@fitinfun I wonder why you have cats where you live and no dogs, that seems odd to me. Maybe the people keep their dogs in the house where they do not roam the streets.

I don't think so. There are just no dogs here. And few cats in Thailand. Why? I do not know.

I always find it interesting which types of animals are favored in one country apposed to another. We Americans are split in pets, but cats and dogs are pretty prevented for cosseted pets. It's sad how disposable all seem to be, though. Where one cat is king, another is scrounging for survival. We need more pets to be neutered when they are so prolific.

Sometimes I see a batch of kittens here. Then people come and take them one buy one as they grow. It's quite amazing. People and pets are always a mystery to me. I just read a fb post about a lady spending $600 a month on her three sick pets. She is broke and wondering what to do.

I don't understand that myself. I think priorities are a bit off when I see these stories.

dogs are the ones we usually see as pets. The cats will be found here in the houses that are empty or making company to single couples or in those houses that only one person lives. Up to ten cats in a single house, leave and return by themselves as if nothing.

Interesting. There are some cats in Thailand, but not many. Maybe they are hiding out from all the dogs.

Can't believe there's no dogs in Muslim countries. Hmmmm...

I have the idea that they think dogs are "unclean" animals, but I might be making that up. I will ask my friends here and find out.

I'm also thinking the same, but maybe they have their reasons. 😊

Fascinating that no dogs are around in certain regions, pretty strange to say the least.

We have abandoned cat and dog pet problems, not in the streets in the bush trying to eek out a living. People tend to feed the cats, our SPCA cannot cope no longer subsidized by government only relying on local residents donations. When they do capture they are neutered, innoculated then try place them a home.

Rabies is rampant in our part of the world, dogs abandoned are such a terribly sad sight to see, adopt a pet rather than buying from the pet trade...

Oh dear! I do not think rabies is much of an issue in Bangkok. But people are always finding dogs and trying then find homes for them.

This has all been very different that the us where pets are children.

I see more dogs as the owners take them in the vehicles. Dogs usually like a car ride but cats not so much.
