RE: [Steem talk] Text base SPAM

in #esteem5 years ago

Dear @davidke20

I havent been using any of those Dapps as I'm just focusing my full efforts on Steemit.com. I was wondering (and perhaps you know the answer): why is dtube so bloody slow. I tried to watch it number of times and it hardly seem to be loading. I gaved up already on it.

My impression is that dtube proved that blockchain is not a way to go when it comes to delivering video content and that youtube will not be challenged anytime soon.

ps.
Patriko is surely very useful, but many people use it not only to engage with others but also to prepare and post their own publication. No offence, but all posts writen on mobile devices sucks visually and are simply difficult to read.

Piotr

Thanks for the reply. Lemme answer your questions below.

Firstly, the entire Steem block chain is a text base chain. There is absolutely nothing more than characters and numbers store in the chain. The reason of "slow" is due to IPFS online file storage system. As I stated in the post, even the photograph you uploaded through Steemit, are stored separately from the chain. Whichever visual you see here is merely a mirror of another image hosting services. Again, back to video, there are blockchain that host video which I don't care to find out because they do not reward with Steem. A proper blockchain based video hosting should have different resolution that will suit the internet speed one choose to view. As for myself, I always choose the lowest resolution for a fact that my country's internet speed sucks.

@partiko is mobile app, soon they will introduce web interface according @crypto.talk . Suck or not, depending on the purpose. It's an application for mobile app, hence we should expect mobile type of layout being churn out from these post.

Have you tried @steempress ? They're a plugin that allow WordPress author to link their post to Steem block chain. By using WordPress to author a post, and got it posted in Steemit layout, this is a best case scenario one can imagine. But then again, Steemit has never claim themselves to be a real blogging platform.

Everything seems to be to new despite after 3 years in action. Once again I would like to highlight, Steem blockchain is the basic of the entire ecosystem. Steemit themselves is a dApp that utilize Steem blockchain to store the TEXT data. Other than TEXT, there's absolutely nothing IN the block chain. Whenever you feel slow on a post, that is because of the amount of "reply and comment" which individually stored as one post. Which is why you see your post count so damn high despite you only authored a few posts, because the comment you have made are now considering post(which explain why the comment are entitled for upvote as well). Let's not forget, each of these information including the voters name, vote count, mvests being issued through the voter etc. And therefore, a short 2kb few line text stored in the blockchain, in the end will become a giant 100mb post show on your screen.

With all these condition, now you can apply a video on top of that 100mb post 😂 To simply said, Steem is not made for video, because it's a text base chain. It doesn't mean video is not meant for blockchain. Who knows one day someone can come up with a video chain? But again, the witness server requirement will be insane, in terms of storage.

Dear @davidke20

I missed your comment somehow and I only had a chanc to read it a moment ago.

the entire Steem block chain is a text base chain.

It blows my mind to know that text base chain can be the fastes blockchain I've experienced. Mindblowing. Transactions are being received within seconds. And still the fastest blockchain out there is just so bloody slow and useless when it comes to videos.

I already stopped watching anything on dtube. Pointless.

Also thx for directing me towards @steempress.

Have a great upcoming weekend buddy :)

Cheers, Piotr
