My Own Lyrics Challenge 1966 - Secret Agent Man - P.F. Sloan & Steve Barri

The lyrics to the song “Secret Agent Man” were first written as a short clip for the opening of the American broadcast of a British spy series which aired in the U.S. as "Secret Agent" from 1964 to 1966.

When the clip was chosen, the lyricists wrote the rest of the song. They are meant to capture the exciting life one would have if living the life of a spy.

My Own Lyrics Challenge is going through the years to spotlight cool songs and this post is for 1966. The most famous recording of “Secret Agent Man” was made by Johnny Rivers, and it has become a signature tune for him.

The song peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 upon release, ranked as number 47 for the year. It has gone on to be covered by many others over the years since then, and used in countless shows and games.

Johnny Rivers performed Secret Agent Man on many tv shows in the next years. All of those performances were lip synced. This black and white version show some great dancing as the song goes on.
