Casting Lots

Humans have been 'casting lots,' intertwining fate and chance, through ritual and game for thousands of years. The Greeks lay claim to the invention of Dice, but older dice sets have been found in archeological digs in Iran dating to around 3000 BCE. The Egyptians have been using dice even before that to play the game of Senet while in the east, where dice most likely originated, they are mentioned in early Hindu and Buddhist writings.

The fascination of holding fate in our very own hands has long fascinated human beings. It is believed that actual bones were originally used in a game called knucklebones which later became the dice we know today. Much like in the days of casting lots or knucklebones to divine fate, dice today can also determine one's final outcome. Many games have been devised around dice to heighten the entertainment quality and prolong the outcome of one's fate while using dice. There are the family entertaining type games like Monopoly and Candyland that use dice to decide the player's amount of moves and ultimately whether they win or lose the game. Then there are the ever enticing gambling games like Backgammon, Craps, and the ever popular street game called Cee Lo. All these games using dice have one thing in common, and that is the fate of the person casting the dice. The dice will determine the outcome of the game through random numbers that will determine whether the person who cast the dice is a winner or a loser. This insatiable desire to know whether we are winners or losers continues today with the newest and most modern version using smart contracts to fulfill the individual yearning to hold destiny in our hands. Enter Etheroll Dice.

Etheroll Dice

I posted about Etheroll Dice ten days ago, explaining a few of the key reasons why I liked this ERC20 token. Now that we have mostly survived this latest downturn caused by the indecisive Bitcoin community, Etheroll Dice finds itself currently at about $4.05 USD. 10 days ago it was ranging at about $4.80 - $5.00 USD. I took the opportunity to buy some in the $3.00 range averaging down my total purchase of Etheroll Dice down to about $4.00.

During these last few days I have taken to learning more about Etheroll Dice. Obviously Etheroll Dice is a gambling site, but it is the simplicity in its business model where Etheroll Dice excels. Players don't have to create an account or submit any information to play, they just need Ethereum in their wallet. Players then have the option of setting their desired odds in order to limit their risk or to gain bigger payouts, and this is all managed through a smart contract that is transparent, provably fair and profitable with the house having a slight 1% edge. Dice token holders will partake of the house profit through quarterly dividends given out in Ethereum, with the 1st of scheduled dividend payments to occur on August 7, 2017.

I looked 'under the hood' of Etheroll Dice using CryptoCurrencyChart.com. Here you can look at live stats and then using the Dice Statistic link, you can see historical data, including the daily bank roll amount as well as other pertinent figures. The live stats show the current house Bank roll, profit, number of bets and much more data on the vitals of Etheroll.

I also found a site that helps calculate the potential dividend payout for Dice token holders. At myetheroll.com you simply put in how many Dice tokens you are currently holding and it estimates the potential payout if the dividend was paid out that day. Then there is an article on Medium about Etheroll, and it describes how Etheroll Dice token could possbily be worth around $30 up to $130 USD under certain profit/dividend scenarios. So with less than 20 days before the 1st ever dividend payout by Etheroll Dice, it is time to pay attention to the size of what is left with that 1% house edge.

ps. As usual, this is not investing advice, and I do hold Dice and other cryptos.

Great post! I never even heard of this crypto. But I am not much for gambling. My buddy just got all of his bitcoin back after his betting website was shut down by the feds. They Held like 200k US worth of bitcoin from him, and like 8 months later they sent him an email that the case was closed. From what I understand, they couldn't keep the bitcoin because it wasn't recognized by the state. Don't hold me to how I am describing this. The moral of the story is that when he got his bitcoin back, it was worth a small fortune. LOL

Wow that is one lucky guy @captainobviou3

It's like the Feds held his wallet until the value was good. They did him a favor. 😂 I know he was making quite a bit of money running the online poker table, but when it was all said and done, he did no jail time. Had a couple computers taken and then was given back. Then he got rewarded in the end☝🏼👀😂

Sir street, my bow for a great post :d
