EOS: CONSTRUCTIVE AND DESTRUCTIVE DESIGN TECHNIQUES
There are basic math operations that can help guide the art process when an artist is stuck.
A additive approach just adds images together.
A subtractive approach is more minimalist and removes content leaving a little more breathing room for the viewer.
A multiplicative approach adds images together in a pattern.
A divisive approach removes pieces of the art in a pattern.
There is rarely any one way that will instantly click with viewers and just work, but at least by exploring these and other more formulaic approaches, one can start to make an inventory of techniques that will guide the artist and viewer to new visual terrain.
To me, math is art. To some degree, art is math. But wow, the beauty in the simplicity of this is inspirational!
