EOS holders will know that EOS tokens entitle their owner to vote on block producers, who sustain the EOS network, and should also know that Greymatter & Scatter are two apps you can use to allocate your voting power.

With that in mind I wanted to post about these two applications, in the hopes of helping newbies like me get out and vote.

Let your voice be heard: Vote, Vote, Vote!

It is extremely important that every EOS token holder take the time to register their tokens, and allocate your votes to deserving block producer canadidates. The reason should be self evident, without your vote, some quality candidates will not be reconginized and the EOS network might be worse off without them.

So your vote is important because it can influence whether bad, good, or great block producers secure the network. But also in voicing your opinion you can make it harder for any single entity to "attack" the EOS network by empowering a bad actor to become a block producer. What does that mean? Imagine, that some rich group, who hates EOS, wants to sink the platform, decides to buy a lot of EOS to vote in a block producer who wants to put forward dangerous or counterproductive iniatives, well if all us newbies, with a few tokens take the time to allocate our votes honestly, in a diversified manner, that becomes much harder to do.

So in a very real way, your vote secures the platform. Your votes empowers hopefully well meaning block producers, across preferrably a diverse geographical range, to operate and earn, which then stablizes the EOS network and thereby our investment in EOS.

Scatter:

If you don't know Scatter, it is an ICO on EOS, and they created an application which runs on Chrome which enables your EOS keys to securely store on your computer, which enables that data to auto fill when you need your EOS keys for activity on the EOS chain.

Examples include:

  1. Voting for block producers
  2. Playing EOS games
  3. Using EOS applications, which require your user data (ie., user account name, keys, address, etc.)

This tool makes using the EOS chain very easy, but has minimal utility outside of voting at this time. That will change when more applications start operating on EOS, and those apps begin to ask you for your data, when that starts to happen this tool will make your life very easy while keeping your data secure and safe.

Scatter is not a wallet, and will not allow you to send or receive tokens on the EOS network, but it does allow you to stake and unstake EOS tokens, thereby affecting vote weight.

GreyMass:

Greymass is a block producer, and an EOS wallet designer, based in Michigan, USA. The Greymass wallet is akin to Scatter in one respect, it enables vote allocation as well. Greymass also allows you send and receive your EOS tokens, and add your ICO airdrops and track those tokens as well.

One more thing that Greymass enables is staking and unstaking of your EOS tokens, which is important because it affects your voting power on the network as well as how much activity you can perform on the network, like Steem for Steemit.

Conclusion:

If you own EOS I would say you can securely and safely use either of these applications to allocate your votes and you should vote. Voting enables block producers to secure the EOS network and keep it active, and we all need that network to remain active and secure.

I use both Scatter and Greymass so if you have any specific questions about either feel free to leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer back.

If this was helpful please let me know, if not do you have any specific questions? There are a lot of EOS resources and its hard to understand some of the video footage online, so if I can help do let me know.

As always, thank you for your time and attention. Have an awesome day, God bless.
