Position on Vote Buying

in #eos6 years ago (edited)

We at EOS Rio believe in decentralization’s disruptive power. The strength of distributed systems depends on building and maintaining networks which correctly and fairly balance incentives between all parties. This basic requirement means that inflation through token emission should only reward behavior that sufficiently increases the adoption and use of the network. In this way, inflation, particularly during the growth period of a network, can have a positive impact on the long-term value of the network. In EOS, token rewards are designed to incentivize Block Producers who contribute to the security and scalability of the network and to incentivize worker proposals designed to benefit the community.

EOS Rio believes that vote buying and other indiscriminate token distributions, like spam airdrops, are not beneficial to the network. Those practices negatively impact the network’s value by engaging in inflationary activities unrelated to the incentive mechanisms that tokenize value creation and network demand.

Value creation should be the driving force behind token distribution. The financing of worker proposals, from Dapps to community engagement events, are the value creations which will grow network demand and, subsequently, justify the inflation through token emission. The token reward received by an active Block Producer is indirectly driven by the value creation of said Block Producer’s work proposals.

EOS Rio promises to not pay for votes, directly or indirectly, via distribution of dividends or other forms of compensation that would create a conflict between voters and network interests.

We have been working on projects that benefits other Block Producers, developers, and EOS users. We will continue investing in such initiatives, including third-party applications that are chosen in such a way as to not represent a conflict of interests.

We will soon publish a code of conduct that thoroughly details and reflects the basic values outlined herein.
