🎤How to Join as a Guest Speaker

Step 4: Reply to this Thread with the following Details:

  1. Topic
  2. Appropriate Links
  3. Steemit and/or Mumble account name of Representative/Speaker
  4. How should we Introduce you/your project/your news coverage?
  5. What is your bitshares account name?

⛒ Is Any Topic Off Limits?

Yes. We reserve the right to learn from the newest trickster trolling steemit consistently searching for way to insert chaos into the equation and devise future strategies for negating these. Naturally if these efforts become ham-fisted attempts at shutting down free speech in honest conversations, the audience will hold us accountable.
But with that said....pretty much anything can be covered--even up to and including current events. However, I personally will only be voting up stories that touch the blockchain in some way shape or form and will be asking the community to downvote absolute Rubbish! ;)

What are Beyondbits and Whaleshares?

Beyondbits and Whaleshares started as a conversations in the BeyondBitcoin hangout series shortly after Steem was launched historically in those very hangouts. It began as "community tokens" or "tag coins" for those who never knew to listen in who may wish to listen to the origins in our BeyondBitcoin Podcast Series. Drop in and listen to them sometime!

These tokens give their hodlers the power to Summon a Whalevote to posts without having to pay for attention. And they are only given to people who Win Contests and do other things of value to the community!
These little hidden gems are held safely just for you. Waiting for the moment when you prove yourself in the arena of contests and hangouts like the whaletank...so if you haven't yet, you should follow @officialfuzzy and watch out for his new contests, or join the Whaleshares Discord where there are a community of Beyondbit Experts!

Bitshares HUG REST API

Hey,

During my break between semesters, I've created a HUG REST API for the Bitshares network. This serves as an alternative software stack to oxabitrage's BPAB for creating software/websites which require fast access to Bitshares network data.

It's fully open source & the readme contains instructions to establish your own BTS HUG server.

Moon :)

I look forward to hearing what you have come up with man.

Very interesting, @officialfuzzy. I hope to have a Bitshares project coming soon. Previously, I helped build Euro Pacific Bank and thought that I was going to change the banking system by having a Gold/Silver backed bank and 100% reserve (no loans). Nope, can't change the banking system from the inside. I'm now obsessed w/ Bitshares and the idea of "banking in the cloud" or "banking as a service".

When are these hangouts? Maybe I overlooked it? I'd like to become a regular.

Glad to hear about this. You should really enjoy bitshares then with your background :)

it's insane. I can't believe how much has been implemented and how little attention it's getting. I fully expect it to be migrated over within EOS and be the financial layer there.

It saddens me personally...
but then makes me happy because apparently i know something most do not in crypto. That seems bullish (to me). lol

do you think it was b/c Dan pushed back against Satoshi back in 2010? Why did people start using ETH instead of BTS and why do so many early BTS supporters feel burnt by Dan? Something is very strange here.

I agree that it's bullish that we know something that most in crypto don't understand and with all these exchanges starting to enforce KYC...2018 is looking good for Bitshares and hopefully EOS. I guess we'll soon find out.

Crypto-Currencies as Medium of Payment

Suggested Duration: 2 to 5 minutes

BitShares Blockchain Foundation posted an article highlighting the benefits of a stable digital token as a medium of exchange.

A well-known obstacle to greater adoption of crypto-currencies like BTC as a medium of payment is the high volatility of its exchange value, due to its limited supply. As a consequence, the unit price varies (sometimes significantly) over short periods of time. This makes BTC unpractical for merchants that need to pay their suppliers in cash - especially in bearish markets where this currency risk can ruin a business.

The article then goes on to highlight three concepts that maintain a peg.

  1. Asset-backed Peg (e.g. USDT backed by an IOU)
  2. Liquidity-backed Peg (e.g. NuBits backed by BTC)
  3. Market-backed Peg (e.g. bitCNY backed by BTS)
Great anthology of FAQs, Tutorials, and Developer Guides

Suggested Duration: 2 minutes

@tsugimoto has prepared a great anthology of FAQs, Tutorials, and Guides for the BitShares system. There are numerous helpful articles that have been prepared by various members of the community. This post provides a single place where many of those articles can more easily be found.

Topics cover general overview, accounts, assets, integration guides, blockchain interactions, witnesses, committees, and worker proposals.

AriseBank, a Decentralized Bank, Plans on Integrating with BitShares

Suggested Duration: 10 minutes

A decentralized cryptocurrency bank in called AriseBank in reported to be in the process of acquired an FDIC-Insured Bank. This bank plans to have several interesting characteristics:

  • The bank will connect to the BitShares blockchain and enable easy access to Market Pegged Asssets such as bitCNY, bitUSD, bitGold, bitSilver, bitBTC, bitEUR, etc.
  • The bank itself does not know the identity of its account holders and instead relies on a identity verification platform to uniquely identify its users.
  • It is suggested though not confirmed that the non-investment account holders maintain the private keys to their accounts.
  • The bank will provide ATM cards with which account holders can use to convert their cryptocurrency tokens into the local fiat currency.
  • The bank will provide VISA credit cards which can be used to spend an account holder's cryptocurrency.
  • The bank will provide a merchant payment service to enable the easy acceptance of cryptocurrency as payment.

Additional details can be found from an interview with Jared Rice, and also a description about some criticisms about the endeavor.

Graphene Developer Conference in Shanghai on January 20, 2018

Suggested Duration: 2 to 5 minutes

"... bitcrab, the founder of gdex.io, who is also the core leader of Bitshares Chinese community, is calling on a Graphene Developers' Conference on 20th January, in Shanghai. He will also sponsor this conference. The rest of us in Chinese Bitshares community will be volunteers.

Anyone who is interested in Graphene from all over the world will be welcomed ! And please leave your message if you know any project that are using Graphene technology."

@jademont wrote:
This one in January is more like a meetup, it's called PreDEVCON and focuses mainly on Chinese community though anyone is welcomed. We are also preparing for a bigger one, which is more international and possibly in April or May, so that you have plenty of time for visa etc..

Tether Won’t Redeem USD for US Customers. bitUSD To The Rescue!

Suggested Duration: 2 to 5 minutes

The Tether token is ostensibly a market pegged asset that bears a connection to the USD. However, the Tether company has just announced that holders of their token actors in the US will not be permitted to redeem their token at this time “to prevent terrorists and other bad actors from trafficking in Tethers." Tether also asserts that its “terms of service”, give the company the power to refuse service arbitrarily.

BitShares provides an alternative to the use of Tether in the form of bitUSD which is a market-pegged assets (MPA) that is backed by at least 1.75x collateral equivalent of USD.

"The BitShares Decentralized Exchange DEX, puts the security of funds in the hands of the user not a third party. Not only can you use MPAs to avoid the risk of volatility, but you can also avoid the risk of leaving your funds on a centralized exchange that is vulnerable to attackers."

Eastern Caribbean Dollar (bitXCD) on BitShares

Suggested Duration: 2 to 5 minutes

The Eastern Caribbean Dollar (bitXCD) is market-pegged asset (MPA) that was approved by the BitShares Committee last week. This asset is pegged not to the BTS token but rather to the USD (bitUSD) at a rate of 1 bitXCD = 0.37037 USD for the next 365 days. (Will it be updated in one year?)

"This is a unique SmartCoin, because it is not backed by BTS but by bitUSD, as a 2nd level SmartCoin."
