To pass out can have several meanings.

To lose consciousness (intransitive = without object)

Example sentences:

  • I drank too much vodka and passed out.
  • John pass out after being hit hard in the head.

To distribute something (transitive, with an object)

Example sentences:

  • Questionnaires were being passed out at the shopping center to all shoppers.
  • Face-to-face fundraisers were passing out leaflets on the street.

To graduate (of policemen, soldiers etc.) market by a ceremony after training (in the UK and the Commonwealth)

Example sentences:

  • The passing out parade was impressive. The cadets had all passed out in style.
