How to choose construction materials in practically? [finished]

in #engineering7 years ago (edited)
Greetings, how are you steemit friends in aceh and around the world? Hopefully healthy always, beforehand I have been discussing how to choose construction material in practical and you can read it here.

Why practically? Because not all of you have knowledge about materials science and sometimes you are led to choose your own materials that you will use, this paper allows you to know the material that has good quality with ease.

Why do you better find out? You never know when you need it, given the human need for the habitation then you should know what material you choose.

Choosing building materials that have good quality of course highly recommended because you certainly do not want the house that you habituate damaged in a short time so you will spend the cost of renovation. Well I will continue the discussion and hopefully useful.

CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

  • GRAVEL

Pebbles are small rocks and often used as construction material, the most commonly used pebbles are 2 mm - 75 mm. [source] As a gravel construction material has an important role especially as the main material of casting work and road material.

Natural pebbles can also be used as other materials such as aquarium decoration, garden ornaments and so forth.

  • Natural pebbles/river bank
This pebble can be found on the river bank and the base of this pebble is still mixed with sand, soil and other organic. [source]

  • Crushed stone
In quarry stones that have larger sizes will be crushed with a crusher machine to produce stones with smaller sizes. [source]

  • Size 0 -5 mm, this type of stone has the softest size, this type of stone can be used as a substitute for sand.

  • Size 5-10 mm, this type of stone is used as road material.

  • Size 10 - 20 mm, this type of stone is widely used as a construction material, especially as the main material of casting.

  • Size 20 - 30 mm, this type of stone is usually used as a flooring material and another horizontal casting.

  • Size 30 - 50 mm, this type of stone is usually used as a base material of the road, railway, and other bearings

  • [source]

Using a crushed stone is strongly recommended in construction work because the crushed stone has a rougher and irregular surface that can lock each other well.

Gravel that has good quality is.

  • Does not contain mud, clean.
  • Not mixed with garbage or other organic.
  • Does not have size more than 2 cm.

To choose a good pebble you can use a practical sand-testing technique that uses water.

  • BRICK

Bricks are generally made of clay and burned to a lack of moisture [source], a brick is a construction material that serves as a barrier/partition between spaces.

A good brick is the driest, if the bricks are dry then the brick will be hard and will not be eroded by rain.

You can check the bricks by taking samples of about 10 bricks, the bricks are checked in a way trampled with people who weigh 60 Kg as shown below.

Bricks with poor quality will be eroded by rain and can make buildings defective.

  • CEMENT

Cement functions as a brick, stone and other construction material [source], cement have long known only different cement-forming materials, as in some temples in Indonesia that use clay as the adhesive of large stones and so on.

Generally, the commonly used cement is 2 types. That is.

  • Pure Portland cement (type 1)
This type of cement dried quickly and hardened, this type of cement is very well used for structural work.

  • PPC Cement (Portland Pozzolan Cement)
This type of cement has an additional material so it does not dry quickly, this cement is very well used for plaster work and brick installation.

A stronger and faster dry type 1 cement is not necessary when building a simple/single storey house with no heavy loads. The cement strength will be the same when the hardening process is complete.

  • IRON BAR

The Iron concrete bar is an iron used as a reinforcement on construction work [source]. Iron reinforcement is divided into two types, plain bar, and deformed bar.
Some experts recommend using deformed bars instead of plain bars, deformed bars have threads that can bind and blend with cast concrete in a plain bar.

  • WOODEN BOARD

I have explained the introduction of wood before and you can check it a here. You are advised to use wood wisely so as to reduce development costs.

  • No cracks.
  • Not curved.
  • No knots.
  • Has wood quality class I and II.

You can make sure the wood is dry before starting work.

CONCLUSION

The quality of construction materials will affect the results of buildings built especially durability and maintenance costs, using quality construction materials similar to you are saving money.

Quality materials are usually better able to withstand natural phenomena such as climate change, earthquakes, floods and so on, so the use of quality materials is highly recommended.

This is all I can write on this occasion, for all the mistakes and shortcomings of writing as a servant of God, I apologize.

Thanks to friends who have visited this blog and provide constructive comments also to scientists who are willing to sacrifice time for the betterment of civilization.
