Good day to all!

I drew this New Year's illustration with the lesson of one wonderful artist. Used dry pastel in crayons and beige pastel paper.

To make the drawing neat, first drew the contours of the glass ball with a pencil.

With black pastel drew the darkest shadows on the picture,shading rough strokes by fingers.

With the same black color painted a dark reflection of the background inside the ball. With light ocher and sienna painted in the ball a bright reflection of the background and light refractions. All strokes shaded for smooth transitions.

Since there is a blue color on the background of the reference, I added this color inside the ball. With white pastel slightly drew the figure of a snowman. Started draw the background. Since the background is quite abstract, I added stains of yellow, brown, gray, blue, and black. Blew all the strokes. With green color drew slightly overlooking spruce twigs.

Since the format of the picture is very small, for the greatest accuracy it is better to draw small details with pastel pencils. I used to draw with ordinary colored pencils, since, unfortunately, I don’t have pastels.
Added details on the figure of a snowman in the form of eyes, nose, hand-branches, a scarf and a hat. At the base of the snowman, drew a small figure of a deer.

To show the “wooden” texture of the ball coaster, I used pastel of yellow, ocher, brown, black, sandy shades. The brightest places were painted with white chalk, without ramming the final touches to show relief.
Dotted light highlights on the needles of the Christmas tree, inside the ball. On the background of the picture painted lights, using a pastel of light yellow, yellow and white shades.

At the final stage reinforced the shadows, emphasized the details. In the editor I blurred the background to focus on the main subject. My drawing is ready.

In the future I want to use this illustration for printing Christmas cards.
