Hope

in #election10 years ago

Hi, I am new to the community, and I just felt the need to share something.
From my corner of the world, after we swallowed the fact that the American Republican party wasn't just pranking everyone for some reason, we waited for Election Day as the end of the whole nightmare. It would end, we would talk about the Dakota pipeline, about what's going on in Syria and Yemen, the things we should have been focusing on all along.
But it didn't happen. The nightmare was just entering its mature stage.
Hope is resilient, however. And we do see that the popular vote spoke of America's real principles, and that even the ones who elected Trump can be kind to others and to themselves when they are not driven by fake news and fear, and superiority complexes they were taught are indelibly fused with quality of life.
Hope has to live on. It's been said many times that the masses have looser principles than the individual, if only because of the notion of the “greater good”. Now, social media allows us to unify beliefs, and those can become the individual conscience of the mass to triumph in the end.
Because the truth at the bottom of any decent human being is that if you wouldn't cheat your neighbor for your personal gain, you don't need your government to do it in your name.
If you wouldn't send someone back to a country they fled in fear for their lives so that they don't treaten what belongs to you, then you don't need your government to do it in your name.
If you don't need to believe you have a greater right to be in this world because of your genes or the place of your birth, then you don't need your government to back up those ideas.
If you don't feel that you have to rule what others do with their own bodies to live in the same world, then you don't need your government to enforce repression of anyone who doesn't believe in what you do.
And that, to me, is what hope is made of.
