Got my first flag and almost flagged back in revenge 🚩

Instead I decided to risk another flag just to tell the user how unsustainable it is to believe that you can go around trying to censor people just because you don't like what they say, especially after you voluntarily submitted your publication for criticism.

I've been on Steemit for two months now and this is the first flag I get, but it's not the first time I've been tempted to flag someone.

◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️

At first I didn't see a need for flagging, I did not see a need to do what I believed to be punishment when ignoring someone can be as much of an attack. But then I started thinking about the necessity to create a welcoming enviroment that would foster interactions and realized certain practices would be necessary.

The only way I could see flags as anything legitimate though is if the same would compromise some of your earnings, because if anyone with an account can flag without consequences then there is a really big chance of this whole experiment becoming a war of egos.

Two months into Steemit and I can only see the need to flag in two instances:

  • When a tag is being dangerously misused after warning the publisher

  • When a publisher is spamming by reposting the same article

◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️◻️

I will probably write some more about flags and how they are best used in the future as I am very sensitive to the subject of censorship. There is no reason to hide lies for the truth to shine, if you disagree with something the best option is to comment.

Does anyone know what the effect of flagging is on the profile that is doing the flagging?

people should comment before flagging.

when i flag, the one time i did it because of copying, i left a comment to fix it and i would remove the flag. they didn't and neither did i.

I also once got flagged for failing to to use NSFW tag for a womens rights post i did many months ago cause it had topless, though tasteful no nipples right off the womens rights website. He did leave a comment but i refused to put the tag because I felt that the point of the article was to get over the fact woman being topless shouldn't be taboo.

Turned out to be my highest paying post ever. lol

You can always try to talk to them in steemit chat. Private or meet in the steem cleaners channel or like that.

Steemit really needs some place for anger to go.
Currently, the only "dislike" button is to flag someone.

So, what do you do with your anger? Most intelligent people just walk away. However, this has the same results as a little orphan post that nobody saw.

Flagging should be a multi-tiered process. Where someone has done something grevious, out of line, an attack on someone else's character.
Then flagging should be done. And the effects should be to hide the post, or it should go up the chain to someone that everyone agrees is level headed to say if the flagging was justified, or just a malicious attack.

A dislike button should be added. However, its behavior needs to be well planned out. Unless other things are changed, it probably should cause no steem loss, but should be a separate number (42 votes ^, 3 votes v) And then this number should be included in the computation of 'trending'.

The reason I think rewards should be compromised is because if the user is so upset at the message they should be able to say why they are upset as opposed to punishing people who may have no idea what it was about the message that bothered them. And if they don't want to spend the time in understanding why a message bothers them and just want to hurt the messenger, they should pay for that, it shouldn't be without consequence. There should at least be a place where you can easily see how many flags a profile has applied, so we know who the haters are.

I believe a web application could be easily written to give a list of flaggers. You just have to parse the block chain. Just nobody has made it yet.

I agree that putting a flag/down vote is annoying without an explanation.

Flagging should cost something. Someone who goes and flags every one of someone else's posts should see some bad consequences. I just have no good idea how to work it. Probably something like vote power %. Flagging a post more than once a day should lower your flag %. And if you flag a bunch of a single person's post, you should have the % drop by cumulative amount for all the flags.

And maybe, it would just be easy to add to the top of someone's home blog, "Flagger extrordinaire" alongside their reputation number.

If that's your first your lucky.
lol
its not a biggie, just blast their name under the tag flaggot and usually people will cancle out the flag.
