Personality is very necessary to know and learn because the personality is closely related to the pattern of acceptance of the social environment against a person.
Basically the human soul is divided into two aspects, namely aspects of ability (ability) and aspects personality. Aspects of personality include character, nature, adjustment, interest, emotion, attitude and motivation. Personality is very necessary to know and learn because the personality is closely related to the pattern of acceptance of the social environment against a person. People who have personality in accordance with the pattern adopted by the community in the neighborhood, will experience a good reception, but otherwise if someone's personality is not appropriate, let alone contrary to the pattern adopted in the environment, there will be rejection from the community.
Sports activities also shape the personality. Sports teaches someone to be discipline, soul sportsmanship, not easily give up, have a high competitive spirit, the spirit of cooperation, understand the existence of rules, dare to make decisions. So the sport will form a human with a healthy personality. Exercise also nourishes people to perfection as reflected in the motto: Citius, Altius and Fortius. The motto has been recognized world as the Olympic Movement (Olympic Movement). Citius, in fact is not only interpreted as faster or fastest, as recorded on an athlete's achievement in running.
But the real meaning of the mental quality of a person who is able to make decisions faster and smarter. The meaning of Altius, not in higher or higher terms achieves achievement, such as high jump or pole vault in athletics, but refers to a higher or nobler moral. Likewise Fortius is not in the stronger or strongest sense of weightlifting for example, but shows a more resilient and tough personal qualities.
Exercise can be an instrument or agent of value formation and personality that ultimately leads to behavior. Sports activities with values can affect the value system that individuals have. The individual value system affects the personality, and the personality further affects behavior. The role of personality in sports psychology is very important to know the description of the personality traits possessed by an athlete. A male or female athlete either in an individual or group sport is an individual who has its own uniqueness. He has his own talents, patterns of behavior and personalities and backgrounds that affect him specifically. According to Jannah (2012) the athlete is the person who participated in the match pitted its strength to achieve an achievement. Athletes are in fact a human being.

Viewed from some of the above description of man is an organic unity. Attitude and mental athletes on the sport will affect the psychological state of athletes as a whole. The connection that needs to be examined for the truth in this study refers to the statement of a psychologist, "I see there are differences in the nature and behavior that play in groups and individuals on the sport. From these things can be one consideration of the differences between individual athletes and groups (Palupi, 2011: 3). According to Mastuti (2005) in addition to providing a unifying personality framework, research on the big five has found an important relationship between personality and performance dimensions within the company. In the industrial world, it turns out the aspects of the big five personality that is extravertion, emotional stability and conscientiousnes is a valid predictor in predicting job performance. Then aspects of conscientiousness and Extraversion can predict precisely transformational leadership.
Meanwhile, in the clinical field (Mastuti 2005: 6) explains that symptoms of hyperactivity or ADHD (attention-deficit / Hyperactive Disorder) are associated with the factors of the big five ie low scores on Conscientiousnes, Agreeableness and high scores on neuroticism. In sports, this study adapted one of the big five personality measures taken from the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP) and tested the personalities of individual and group athletes. The reason for choosing items from IPIP is because there are collections of items that Goldberg has tested, and are free to use for research purposes or for commercial purposes (Mastuti, 2005: 7).
Based on the background, it can be formulated research issues as follows: 1) How personality of individual athletes and group athletes? 2) Is there a personality difference between individual athletes and group athletes? Based on the formulation of the problem that has been disclosed there are several research purposes, including: 1) Describe the personality of individual athletes and group athletes; 2) Describe the personality differences between individual athletes and group athletes. Benefits of the research to be achieved in this research are 1) To give contribution of thought for society, especially the development of sports science about personality of individual atlet of son and athletes in group of men and add literature and materials of scientific information; 2) Used for evaluation purposes, the trainer can know the psychological condition of the athlete especially his personality, so that the athlete can get special attention during the training.
Personality is a translation of the English personality. The word personality itself comes from the Latin persona meaning mask used by the actors in a game or show. Here the actors conceal their original personality, and present themselves according to the mask they use. Furthermore Anwar (2011) personality is referred to as an abstract, hard to see in real, can only be known through the appearance, action and speech when faced something of a problem. Human personality includes all the elements of both physical and psychic. So it can be seen that every action and a person's behavior is a reflection of one's personality. If the value of a person's personality rises, it will rise also the authority of the person. Personality can be defined as "a set of assumptions about the quality of human behavior along with its empirical definition". Assumption is a basic assumption of reality, to be empirically verified (Popeil, 2011: 4).
Based on the above understanding of theory and personality can be concluded that the personality is a set of characteristics or characteristics that are relatively settled and organized, which affects the behavior of individuals. Personality represents individual characteristics consisting of consistent patterns of thought and behavior There are several approaches advanced by experts to understand personality. In its development, personality theory has three approaches, namely: nature approach, psychodynamic approach and humanist approach (Yuliastuti, 2005: 2). The Personality Trait Theory (Trait) is based on the predisposing reasons of directing individual behavior in a consistent pattern. According to Allport nature (Trait) is a brick is like the foundation of a building, reason, action, the source of uniqueness of the individual. Nature is a suspicion of a tendency that directs behavior consistently and characteristic of certain characteristics. The nature produces consistency in behavior, due to the continued nature of the attributes and their scope in general and broad.
Trait theorists assume that everyone has a certain trait, but which will be applied varies and can be quantified (Mastuti, 2005: 17). Trait-oriented personality experts assume the amount of trait in individual personalities differently. For several years the debates among the traitors of the trait amount and trait dimensions required in describing the personality. Until the 1980s after finding more sophisticated and quality methods, especially factor analysis, there began to be a consensus on the number of trails. The trait was put forward by Robert R. Mccrae and also Paul T. Costa. These five trails are usually abbreviated to OCEAN. 1) Factors in the Big Five Personality. Factors in the Big Five, Mastuti (2005), include: a) Neuoroticism: According to McCrae (in Mastuti, 2005: 21) this trait assesses stability and emotional instability.
Identify the individual's tendency to be stress-prone, have unrealistic ideas, have a coping response that is meladaptif. This dimension accommodates one's ability to withstand stress. People with positive emotional stability tend to be calm, passionate and secure. While those with a high negative score tend to be depressed, anxious and insecure. b) Extraversion: This dimension indicates the degree of pleasure a person has for a relationship. The extraversies are a tendency to see the outside world, especially others, for the sake of self-pleasure. People with extravertous characteristics are usually easily friendly and enjoying social activities, but feeling uncomfortable at once. Introversion refers to a tendency to put the world in a person. The more obvious aspects of introversy are shame, dislike of social functions, and love privacy (Boeree, 2008: 427). c) Openess to Experience: This dimension assesses its business proactively and rewards its own experience of interest. Assess how individuals dig up something new and unusual. This dimension mandates about one's interests. (Boeree, 2008: 433). d) Agreeableness: This dimension assesses the quality of individual orientation with the continuum ranging from gentle to antagonistic in thinking, feeling and behaving. This dimension refers to a person's tendency to submit to others. People who are very capable of agreeing far more harmony than their words or ways. (Boeree, 2008: 432). e) Conscientiousness. This dimension assesses the personality of individuals within the organization, both about persistence and motivation in achieving goals as its direct behavior. As opposed to assess whether the individual is dependent, lazy and unkempt. (Boeree, 2008: 432). Five factors in the big five, each dimension consists of several facets.
