The high Illiteracy levels in Africa; Countries not doing enough to educate children and what needs to be done.

The war against illetracy in third world countries has brought together people from different dignitaries; Celebrities, Charity Organisations, governments of developed countries, all these have come together in giving aid for the common good of fighting for education rights of children, a key figure in developing third world countries. Africa to be specific receives funds year in year out to support the very high illiteracy levels slowing the economic growth of countries. But this hasn't made much progress in eradicating illiteracy and we in Africa are to blame for this disgrace as we've not done enough in playing our role in ending the high levels of illiteracy.

Education continues to be a major challenge in Africa even with the much needed support got from the donors from around the world. Illiteracy levels have stayed at high levels yet funds keep coming in to support education of children. This clearly shows how we've neglected our duty in ensuring these kids are in school. There are countless drop outs each day that passes by as young girls are married off for dowry, the boys lose focus and join peer groups that are involved in drugs and various wrong acts. Repetitions of classes are the norm of schools and teachers reach an extent of cheating for children to get them promoted to the next class as a way of keeping the parents who get frustrated with the failure of their children from leaving and looking for services in different schools.

We the people have failed at fulfilling what is expected of us in guiding children to keep them in schools. Parents are neglecting their own children's needs; giving less attention to the financial support they crave for while at school. Children survive on a single meal a day yet they go to school. The brain can not operate without feeding, and as a result poor grades at school come into play.
When things get hard financially, parents look up to the young teenage girls as a source of income from the dowry they collect from their marriage. We have decided to give little attention to the children that will be the ones to build the future of our continent.

The aid will continue coming in to support education but illiteracy will continue trending not until we start the fight with we ourselves. These children are a key figure in the development of Africa, investing in them is what will give countries more skilled labor to support the development of Africa. Each of us has a key role to play; organising activities that create awareness of the benefits of education will show the resposibilities parents have to take to support education of their children. Making joint operations of children that are not in school and penalising their parents or caretakers will ultimately force parents to take upon their role in educating the children. All this needs to be done effectively in communities, the leaders coming together with the public to make joint efforts in keeping children in school.

Together we shall make a lasting impact in children's lives. This will not only benefit the children as their successful careers will be guaranteed but the society too as they will come back and apply their skilled labour in the communities to develop them.
