Topic: How To Justify Our Value In The Market?

Without a doubt, any one who has gone through bad times and surviving in the employment world will think about this at least once. Are we replaceable? The answer is definitely a yes. However, is the value that we put on the table enough to overrule the option of replacing us, especially in big corporates. Besides from the perspective of the employees, as business owners also think about what kind of value proposition can anyone offers so that any partnership with any other entity can be sustain.

From the article I read, it talks about Shapley Value where there are two spectrum of gauging the value of a person in an organization. One is what the person gained from the organization and the other one is what the person committed to the organization. There are four situation for the Shapley Value to show how does it identify the value of a person:

1 - when a person has zero commitment to the organization which means there are no services or resources given. That means the Shapley Value of the person is zero and the person is replaceable.

2 - when two or more persons have equal commitment in the organization, they all share the same Shapley Value which they are equally valuable or replaceable.

3 - when a person commitment is equal to the value of output in the organization. Then, the Shapley Value is high and irreplaceable.

4 - when two given tasks combined into one, the total value of output is equivalent to the previous Shapley Value of the respective committed person

From this situations, I can deduce that there are only two options whereby you are committed and make sure we provide something to the community or do nothing/little and prepare to be ousted. In the meantime, it is good to review and strategize ourselves to keep our output as efficient as possible, especially for people that hold many positions and roles. There are circumstances that we may lost control and end up with minimal commitment in all ends and pulling down our Shapley Value for the organization which we do not wish to. Be clear of what we are meant to do in the specific organization and do it well, with that we can become a reliable figure and no doubt an asset to the organization.

Personally, I always see what I can commit beside my normal job scope has to offer. I believe that what is in the job scope is a mere basic services that anyone could take up unless it is a very specific and specialized role. Nevertheless, it is not easy to put up such promise to myself as working out the basic works has already drained me a lot. Putting extra effort and value on the table will definitely require more time and energy committed. To me, it is the satisfaction when I know the organization benefited from me.
