Case study: Interview

Introduction

The bachelor's thesis is divided into two main units. The first is the theoretical part. There I at first define the terms and premises that will serve as crucial building stones for the rest of the work. The definitions will be followed by an analysis of professional literature, found through the recherché, that is tackling the problem if information overload. The sources for the recherché were: UKAŽ, Web of Science, LISS, LISA, Ebsco and Proquest. I will try to create some sort of an overview (from my point of view) of the relevant opinions of information professionals, or simply critically thinking people, about the issue. In between those opinions, links and possible connections are sought, they are critically evaluated and supplemented by my own knowledge. Emphasis is placed on the preservation of the objective insight. For the first part of the thesis, all qualitative and quantitative researches as well as various theories connected to the given topic are potentially interesting. Based on assembled data, a list of potentially effective methods for elimination or at least partial mitigation of the consequences of the information overload is created and is subsequently evaluated.

The second part of the thesis is practical. As the most effective way of conducting a case study, I have chosen a semi-structured interview after a consultation with the supervisor. The aim of the interview is to obtain general information about the participants' information behaviour. Questions in it are designed to get as much relevant information from participants about their rationalization of information overload, general approach to the information and the life in the information age. Data is then evaluated and potentially effective methods for reduction or complete elimination of the information overload are presented to participants.
