Stressed boss syndrome

I've had a few bosses over the years that could have found some really great value from this book. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like self-improvement was their topic of choice.

By not looking after their employees properly, harm was done to the business and the atmosphere was usually pretty unsettling.

This book has helped employers strengthen and turn their businesses into a huge success. I'm going to strip it apart and help you apply it to your business or community.

Employees are like family

The amount of sales a company makes per year isn't the only factor when trying to determine the successfulness of a business. After all, you could tens of millions a year but if your employees all leave because you treat them like dirt, you'll soon see the revenue counter ticking down.

The well-being of your employees should come first.

To create an environment for your colleagues that makes them feel happy and fulfilled, you have to begin by demonstrating strong leadership. This isn't storming into the room and barking orders aggressively or ruining your worker's motivation by belittling them. Strong leadership is demonstrated by people who look out for there employees and give them a sense of security and fulfillment.

Acknowledge your workers and take the time to tell them why you value their efforts.

A good leader is a lot like a good parent. Somebody who checks in with their peers, lifting their spirits and making ensuring they are in good health and aren't overworked.

Ask questions that can find out how your employees feel.

Does the job feel meaningful to them? Do they feel secure in the position they are in?

The author says a great line that resonates with me; 'it's not just a business you're building - it's also a home, a place that both you and your employees need to feel safe and secure in.'

Do you trust your boss?

Getting input from your employees is critical when instilling trust in your business. Nobody feels happy when they aren't trusted and it will have crippling effects on their motivation.

Let your workers use their own judgment! Hanging over their shoulder 24/7 is just going to put them on edge and it doesn't help them trust you. You want your employees to reach their true potential and the only way to do that is by creating an environment of responsible freedom.

The author describes a technique called the 'just enough' method. By defining what winning is, you give your employees a clear idea of what they should be working towards.
By setting the best possible result, you can then let your employees have the freedom to achieve it using the talents that make them unique in the first place.

Dead end business

Sometimes you are in the wrong field. Sometimes you are in the wrong business.

If your employees aren't happy and you are stuck wondering why maybe you just haven't given them a good vision of where you are wanting to be.
By making a path to your companies future you can give your team the desire to push forward within the business. They need some purpose! Nobody wants to work in a company on its road to ruin.

Try asking yourself some questions to find out if you are on the right track; Where are we going? Is there a reason that it's going that way? What do my employees think?

You need to inspire your workers, to ensure they come to work happy.

Celebrate!

Your team is working great and everybody is working happy. Then after a few weeks of happiness and joy, people start to come into work looking down in the dumps.

Have you let your team know how great they were doing?

Nobody likes to see there hard work being swept under the rug. If you can personally acknowledge your employees efforts in a creative way you can be sure that your team will continue to put out the effort. Monetary rewards aren't always necessary either, sometimes a meaningful chat about how they are working means a lot more to them than an extra bonus.

Don't suck away their intrinsic motivation.

New you?

It's easy to get bogged down and stressed out with your workload when you are running a business. I've seen it time and time again. Huge workload, no time for reflection and the result is a workforce that despises the way their management treats them. Take the time to work out if your company is spiralling into nothingness.
Treat your employees like you would treat your family and make sure their work environment is like their second home, after all, they spend more awake time there, than they do in the house.

If you own a business and would be needing some employees to take over a few departments, you should always let them feel that they are part of the business and bring the idea that they own the business as well. The success and the downfall of the business especially dwelling in sales, projects with a steady market and even start-ups would depend on the efforts of everyone being collaborated. As a responsible employee, you are given a chance to prove your worth so do as what you are told and commit yourself to the organization which molds and strengthens your purpose. Great post! Brings out the corporate mindset in me.

I totally agree with you, employees should always obey the one who pays them but it's up to the employer to show correct morals and work ethics.

I can tell you've got the corporate lingo! ;)

Thank you very much!

yeah. i totally agree.. most employees left the company becos they weren't treated well. especially it comes to the direct manager or supervisor.

Whether it is employee or not, they should be treated with respect. It's so important to have a good culture in a company.
