Home Owner Repair
In my job I see many things, and also get blamed form many things. Here is a quick education on how to deal with some of those false accusations.
Photograph everything= when we walk in the door we take pictures of the areas we are working in. Also take pictures of anything we see broke.
We notify they homeowner of everything that is broken when we walk in.=This way they are aware that we know it was broken when we got there. This cuts them of, and doesn't even allow for false accusations.
We were at this house putting in a new floor and repairing some drywall. As we were leaving the homeowner said that we had caused her garbage disposal to leak. So I took a look to see if it was something easy to fix. Sometimes that is better than a argument. I explained that we were not working in the area, and I flipped it over once I took it out. You can clearly see that they used white silicon to try and seal the cracked unit from leaking. I pointed it out, and the husband quickly fessed up that he had tried to fix it before. Boom I was free and clear. Not every time works out this way, but always be prepared, and do not delete pictures till later.
HOO- LEE SHIT!!!! I work on cars for a living and it is a constant game of CYA - cover your ass. We call them " every sense ya's " as in every sense ya changed my headlight bulb now my engine has a knock or my transmission slips. I am glad people are just as shitty everywhere.
Ya people are always looking to get something for nothing, and when you work on old things, it is just a matter of time before something breaks. I have literally fixed a drain pipe that was leaking on a house only to get a call again later that it was still leaking. Upon arrival, I noticed that it was the water supply line to the toilet. Nothing we were even close to but we were at the house so they wanted to blame us.

woh, good observation and your advice is helpful as well.....who knows we might find our selves in same situation.
I totally get where you are coming from. I’m a teacher yes but through university I became a painter and while waiting for a teaching contract I ran my own painting business which I still run casually. You have to be so careful walking into a home to make sure things that are problems before you arrive are pointed out first. My biggest issue is people that want to save money by not painting their ceilings but the previous paint job or age has left discolouration all over the ceiling. I have to point it out because after a fresh paint job it is so obvious. Some still say don’t bother with the extra small charge of doing a ceiling first. Argghhhh!!
Bro you are giving very good information to other person so they can deal with their customers.
Very cleaver. You must be in CBI.
By sharing your story you will surely help many people, including me, because you give us an idea of how we should do things in a similar situation. I appreciate that you have shared it. Best regards.
