Education is key for progress and we are key for education - Could Steemit help?

Education is a pressing matter for the world now as the fake news,  crowd manipulation, pseudo-sciences and simple mentalities are taking over the world. Nobody wants to work anymore, everyone wants a quick path to riches, and the global community has to suffer. And the more uneducated people are, the louder their voice is. A lack of education leads to bad decisions which can have a deep impact on one's life. But think that as the population's level of education decreases, the chance of uneducated people getting to the top increases. This spawns incompetence and can have dire consequences for everyone.

The educational system is already lacking and outdated. I am not talking about you, Finland or Sweeden, I am talking about the rest of the world.
Teachers are poorly paid, curriculums are not keeping up with the requirements, schools are ill equipped for the future and students feel left out, un-engaged with the content supplied.
Add to this the high level of standardization and monotony and batching the children together instead of giving them creative tasks and you have a recipe for disaster.

Some people at the Khan Academy argue that the whole educational system was designed to produce factory workers in the industrial age and it doesn't fit our requirements anymore:

What can be done to solve this situation? Is it possible to change the educational system from within? Or should we try to use alternative means to educate the people regardless of age and build or contribute to an educational cluster bigger than just schools and conventional methods?

With the reach of the Internet we could design another system, based on practical things that can be easily absorbed by people of all ages. How successful among our children would an educative version of Minecraft get?
How further could we get by steering our children towards space exploration and sciences? How independent could they become if they would be exposed to a Steemit for Kids? Needless to say that it will beneficially develop their reading abilities, we all know that kids read less and less these days. What if they would be rewarded ( a gamification of homework- if you will ) for reading and posting their own ideas, get into debates and learn to document and research according to the scientific method.

The uses of steemit are just starting to be analyzed and taken into account, but I would like to do more for this.
Educated people know how and why to vote ( hmm, maybe this will prevent certain poor choices being made during state elections ) and maybe, just maybe this will help us globally evolve into something more than a war-mongering blind-believers trust-less civilization looking only to get richer and richer ourselves.

Imagine: 

•  a single Whale vote could change the life of a family living with 20$ a month.
• Imagine how much incentive would a kid get after cashing out 20$ for LEARNING and being involved in a few discussions monthly.
• Imagine what would this do for his/hers future. 

Internet and connectivity is everywhere so we can't pretend we can't do more.
Perhaps I'm just rumbling and I am sure I left some (or most) of my arguments out ( I am not used to writing for others - but someone has to do it ) but I really want to see this change.
