Gratitude challenge, day #3 Friendship with animals

If all the beasts were gone, men would die from a great loneliness of spirit, for whatever happens to the beasts also happens to the man. All things are connected. Whatever befalls the Earth befalls the sons of the Earth.

This little brown munchkin cat is one of my best friends. I love him very much, even though he's not even my cat. He is my neighbours cat, but he likes to hang out with me too, especially when the neighbour is out, their stove is not on and the weather is dreary, then he comes to sit close to my stove for some warmth and company.

This was him last winter when it was snowing outside...

I love how they have their own thing going on, complete little personalities looking for comfort and connection. Isn't it amazing how they like to cuddle so much and how soft their fur is, it's like they are made for cuddling. I always feel very honoured to have such an innocent and soft little creature come to me, wanting to snuggle. I mean, it just makes everything alright, doesn't it?

Animals have evolved until the astral plane according to Rudolf Steiner, this means that they have not only a physicality like the stones and plants have, and not only a life force system like the plants have, but that they are also emotional beings. In fact that is the medicine they have come to give to us I believe. I see this reflected in Native American beliefs where one can have a totem animal that is a guide on the astral plane ( emotional realm). For example If your totem is the eagle your medicine is to dream big ( of mountains in the distance) and have an overview and a certain amount of patience that comes with that.

I love how animals are so pure in their characteristics. That way by just looking at them act a certain way in their innocence can really teach us things. I believe we are very connected, humans and animals. And that our happiness eventually depends on their happiness, like Chief Seattle says in the quote above. We would be sorely lonely without our funny little and big animal friends.

It was very striking to me that in the movie 'The Golden compass' the soul of humans walk beside them in the shape of an animal.

I feel so grateful to animals for all they give us, and especially their trust. Let's make sure we deserve their trust and become their guardians like we are supposed to be. Because we as humans have not only physicality, and energy system and an emotional system, we also have the capacity to be a guardian for other beings on this planet with our love and care. This is a human quality and I believe it is our task, because we were given this garden, this earth and all on it to care for.
