This is interesting, not having the tree, not aware of it's cycle.
We have trees that do similar, not to this extent. Other trees or small bushes the tips go bright red/orange before the leaves unfurl. Your aspen's catkins makes for a very unusual display.
Yes it is quite a spectacular display and when they fall off it makes it look like there is snow on the ground because they are so thick in some spots!
That would be beautiful to have the red tips!
