Ecotrain Question of the Week: What changes have you seen in the world in the last 10 years, and in which direction do you think we are headed?

in #ecotrain6 years ago

When I first saw the question I thought, NOOOOOO...I am SO not going to answer that. But then I realized it was only 10 years, so it would still be hard to guess my age LOL.
10 years is nothing really, and yet: so much has changed in only those few years.

So what changes have I seen?

Economy

First of all, we’ve seen an economic boom and crash in that time. Recession has hit many and the poorest among us the worst.
Here in Ireland alone, many families are still facing eviction out of their own homes because they bought into the bank’s stories when they told them the economy was at a high and lending and mortgages were handed out like wildcards on the playfield.
The Irish bought property left, right and center. A family home here, a holiday home there, all in the name of the Celtic tiger.

And it has cost many people dearly.

Now, many of these same people either have been evicted from their homes so the banks could repossess their property, a lot are now either homeless or worse.
The number of families who have at least one parent who didn’t know how to face their increasing problems and decided to step out of this life into the next is staggering.
Families broken apart and now dealing with depression and/or trying to handle living without a loved one. But the banks don’t care. As long as they can twist their money grabbing fingers into the sides of the broken and pull out whatever they can pull, there is nothing anyone can do to stop them. The resistance is there, but it is not enough....YET.

And then: the light at the end of the tunnel: Cryptocurrency and decentralization.

Finally, there is something that can help to better the lives of those who were hopelessly chanceless to begin with. And it has, and it does. But with that, we raise the question:
Why do we need banks and why do we keep putting up with their bullshit?
Now, we have the means to fight their evil and build better communities than ever before.
I would LOVE to see things like this everywhere:

Technology

I think we can all agree that a lot has changed in the past 10 years alone.
Sure, most of us already owned a mobile phone 10 years ago, but they weren’t as fancy and advanced as some now. I mean, at the time we actually used those mobile phones for one thing mainly: to call people. Nowadays, they look at you as if you grew an extra head if you only use your mobile for that.
They’ve actually managed to make the thing into a mini computer, and that alone shows us how far we’ve come since then.

Computers have advanced even more than that. Could you imagine working on a computer with a 10 year old processor now? Well I can’t. It would go straight out the window.

Blockchain? Hell, I hadn't heard about it 5 years ago, let alone 10!

Politics

I would lie if I'd say that there have been a lot of changes in regards to that. There haven't. Same old shit as it used to be.
And with that, I mean worldwide. Just look at the US. In the last 10 years, they have gone from a dumb clown who couldn't even speak normal sentences, to the first black president ever who in his turn loved to bomb countries and kill innocent people to another clown who is not very good at making America great again. They've become their own self-fulfilling prophecy of the movie Dumb and Dumber...
And this is just looking back 10 years....We can all feel sorry for the American people, or blame them because they chose them right? RIGHT? Well, wrong. I believe we've come to a point where we are starting to realize that presidents are not chosen by the people, but chosen by the people who really rule the world, and with that us.
And this is not just America. America is just in the spotlight more than anyone, but it doesn't mean that the rest of the world has been spared. Name one country with a good government that have the best interest of their people at heart...
ONE.
No?
I didn't think so either.
Let me know if you do have one because that's where I'll be moving (please don't let it be a cold country...😉).

Education

That's actually a joke. Education hasn't changed in the past ten years...I'll take it one step further: it hasn't changed in over 100 years! Sure, most kids in school don't get beaten by priests and nuns anymore, but that doesn't mean it has improved much. They are still learning the same old shit from old books that people even older than those books have written. They are still told the same old lies by the same old liars.
In Nazi Germany they called it brain-washing. And now we call it...wait...
I call it exactly that. Brain-washing, indoctrination. You can give it a gold star, it doesn't make it better.
The school system was based on teaching kids to obey orders, sit quietly and do as they were told to do. So they could be shaped into becoming factory workers in the industrial world.
This was the case then and this is the case now.

In which direction are we going? The Awakening.

When the economy was booming and people couldn't spend enough money on too many unnecessary things, they forgot one thing: what is truly important in life.
I believe with the recession a lot of people came to realize what that is. Family and community.
So I guess in a way it was a good lesson for some, not a nice lesson, but good nevertheless.

It's a shame that so many people had and still have to suffer the consequences of the endless greed of banks and politicians to realize just what is important.
But I do think that it did bring people together. Just like it happens in most critical times.

We've seen the people care for and help other people in the aftermath of Katrina.

Not the government.

We've seen the same in places like Flint, Michigan, USA where it was people who helped others that had nothing and lost everything.

Not the government.

It was the people who stood with the Native Americans in North Dakota.

Not the military or the government.

The people have also seen how banks were able to destroy lives and being bailed out by governments later.
And with that, I believe that people are starting to realize not only what's important, but also the power they hold.

And now we have the blockchain and decentralized currency. WOW. More people every day are starting to realize its potential. And the more potential, the more the governments and banks are getting nervous.
This potential combined with the strength of the people, who are more and more realizing that we need self-sustainable communities and that we really don't need money grabbing governments and banks and the old type of education that has been offered for more than 100 years makes them even more nervous.
I truly believe that this is the reason why we see more drama and fake terror attacks and the likes recently than ever before (and it has been there all our lives...this is nothing new).

It's because we're winning and they are losing.

And before we know it, this will have caught on and there will be nothing that can stop it from happening.

Don't forget: We ARE the revolution!

I honestly feel the internet and exchange of knowledge has upset the global powers. We will see a renaissance of technology or world war 3 I’m an optimist so, I believe Blockchain and cybernetics will become a regular thing and then singularity will happen.. Much love!

I couldn't agree more. I like to think of myself as an optimist as well, that's why I believe we're on the winning side. Thank you for reading. Your feedback is very much appreciated! Thank you for the resteem!❤️️

i think its good information for us. Thanks @misslasvegas

you're welcome! Thanks for stopping by! 😊

You have highlighted all the important aspects that have changed a lot over the years and the part on decentralization and cryptocurrency coming in the limelight is 100% true. That's what I am thinking to focus on in my post too. I missed out on it yesterday. Great article btw :)

thank you for your kind words. It means a lot to see people appreciate my work. I love how we are all so like-minded. 😊

Love that too :D

Love the memes you chose to go with it! I do see hope here with a lot of the people here on Steemit. Who knows...maybe it could grow enough to change he world!

I'm quite sure of it. The people here are amazing! So many like-minded people and not so many 'haters'. WHAT a relief after facebook! The love is very much present here. Thank you for taking the time to read my post and the feedback. I appreciate it all! 😊

What an informative post it is! It is quite authentic that technology has fasten our lives and every thing is in our access. Computers and internet provides us information about every field of life.....Students can get additional info from google regarding their subject of interest. But scientific progress has lost our moral values indeed. The quote that you have posted here is amazing! The work which is done by full dedication always bless us with reward. Awesome post! Keep it up!

Thank you for reading and your feedback is very much appreciated! True that some moral values are lost, but surely they are coming back to us. We just need to continue to awaken the masses. I think Steemit is the best place for that! Much love to you.

There is no change since XV century. Kings & poors mostly. Hopefully crypto will give the people their power back!

I'm sure of it, it is already happening...Thank you for the feedback :)

  • Nuevamente... EXCELENTE POST, Dios te bendiga <3

Muchas gracias. Eres muy amable. ¡Mucho amor para ti! ❤️️❤️️

Another great take on the Question of the Week
and you seem to like George Carlin too.
"Learning from Stalin means learning to triumph!" 😉

thank you! Yeah, I saw Carlin pop by in your post too. I LOVE him. One of the funniest truth speakers the world has ever known.

Yes! My favorite, but don´t tell the ecotrain, is his anti-environmentalist rant
"Saving the fucking planet". 😂

Hahaha, no worries, I won't tell them 😉Have you ever heard of Richard Jeni? He also went way before his time. I loved him and his dark (and sometimes 'too much') sense of humour too. He has this thing when he mentions saving babies in Africa...it's priceless...

No, never heard of him. Thanks!
For me now the one living contender for the throne of George Carlin is Frankie Boyle. He´s so mean he makes medicine sick. 😍
"Hillary Clinton was a very particular type of feminist.
She did not believe in female genital mutilation,
unless it was performed by an American drone."

Never heard of him, but definitely checking him out now. Thanks for the tip @likedeeler!

Yes! I love your bit on education! We do think a lot alike! We are definitely awakening, and for sure the darkness helped this happen. Tech and the blockchain are gonna make it all possible!

yes, it's funny how the people on the 'dark side' are digging their own graves...It's been too long coming.

Yes. Generally a pacifist, but kinda excited to watch it burn.
