My Answer To ecoTrain's Question Of The Week: Abundance Woes

in #ecotrain5 years ago (edited)

Hello my fellow Steemian's! So this post is my answer to the ecoTrain's question of the week, which can be found in this post, Abundance Woes. I am sure a lot of us have had this issue. Especially in the New World. Abundance could be a blessing, or a curse. For instance, having an abundance of food can be a blessing, for you will never run out. But what if you have so much food, and it spoils before you can even consume it? So is it a blessing, or a curse? It really depends on how you handle your abundance.

To much of a good thing?

Since I have a perpetual grow utilizing cloning to keep the cycle going, I always end up with a over flow of plants! This is due to my small space, and I always make sure to take enough so I will guarantee a strain will not be lost. Starting from seed is a long process. Another downside from starting from seed, is a cannabis plant can be a male. For those that are unfamiliar with what I am talking about, a male produces pollen sacs, and a female produces the flower that all cannabis smokers love. Cloning is not only a faster process, but if you clone from a good female, that cut will be the exact copy of the mother.

Ok back to my answer. So all this cloning I do creates an abundance of plants. With very little room I am unable to use them all. How do I deal with this?

1. Throw plants outside

This first solution is not the most viable. This is largely in part of my back yard not getting the proper amount of sun. Cannabis needs more then 12 hours of light, if it gets 12 hours of dark, it will start to flower. Only 1 month out of the year, do I get the proper amount of sun light to keep a plant from flowering. But the plus of being able to throw a few out in my little back yard is making seeds. I have male pollen stored, and I will use it to pollinate the females. Not only is this fun, but making seeds is really an empowering thing. Especially when it comes to cannabis, seeds can be very expensive! Look out in the next couple weeks, I will make a post about making seeds. :)

2. Gift

This is my favorite solution to my abundance of my cannabis plants!! It is also something I can do year round. Cannabis clones can cost anywhere from 5$-25$, and don't get me started about the high prices at the dispensary's for medicine! Not only am I gifting a wonderful herb, I am also giving the gift of growing, which can supply someone with a good amount of flower.

My abundance woe, is a blessing

Which I am very great full for. If I had no backyard, or did not give, I would have to just kill my extra plant's. Which has never been an option. Also my handling of the situation is a key part to my perpetual grow. Having to many plants in a small space can cause many issues, like mold, and not growing to a good size. Also me taking more then what I need ensures I have plants to keep the cycle going. Everything has it's purpose in life, just like the saying goes, "One man's garbage, is another man's treasure."

Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish, he will eat for a lifetime.

The gift that keeps giving... can actually be any gift. What I noticed, when creating abundance, you just have to give... After a while it makes sense, since we are all given so much all the time. Thanks for making this important aspect of abundance the center piece of your post. :-)

Yes indeed! Giving also just fells good, so its so easy to do!

I have the same problem - not enough space for the medicine I need to grow! I end up having to buy quite a bit, although I'm perfectly capable of growing it myself, and I love doing it. Instead, I have to buy lower-quality cannabis from other growers that aren't so confined in growing space. Someday I'll have access to a large garden, or even farm, for growing :)
Keep up the great work!

Thanks buddy! Yeah I look forward to the day I have good space. Cause not only will I still be able to gift plants, but I would have an abundance of medicine to gift!

That would be amazing, right? I'd love to be able to provide for myself, MediKatie, and others. I know what I produce is healthier than almost anything else they'll ever find, so I feel great being able to share it. I know there are others... a lot of dispensaries and growers in the black market are the same! Just good people with a skill, that want to put their time to use growing plants for medicine. There are lots of us out there, held back by stigma and prohibition! Think how the world could be without all the unjust laws and regulations? Imagine if you could grow a massive crop in a nearby empty lot, and gift most of the medicine to the needy? And so the activism goes on.

im laughing, i mean number one what a thing to have in abundance.. and two, what a thing to share and gift people.. It sounds like you are a ganja angel! ;-)

Giving someone a good laugh is a win in my book! Thanks for your kind words, giving is just so easy to do and makes life more worth while. As far as an angel, probably far from it, but putting positivity into the world is my motto🤠

Haha, fantastic post @jonyoudyer and so true! Happy 420 Day! I have also done gifting and moving them outside all great ideas! and I said earler "A friend with Weed , is a friend indeed!" Cheers to an over abundance!👍👍👍😎

I'm betting your friends and neighbours love you!! And yes, GIFTING is such a perfect response to an overflow.... I especially loved that you prefer not to kill your extra plants... Very much looking forward to your How to Make Seeds post, as I'm sure most of our green-thumbed steem community is. Lovely response to the challenge - please be sure to park the url in the comments section of the original challenge post.

Too many plants is never a bad thing especially when you gift them! 💚💚💚

Just to think that what I do would get me jail time in some areas. So great full for the freedom to do this, without the fear of being prosecuted. This plant is truly amazing. Thank you for your comment!

haha reading through the comments "A friend with weed, is a good friend indeed" love it.

Yes, What a wonderful idea for a gift and way to deal with an overabundance.

It does remind me of Coronation Street (a long long time ago) when someone was gifted a cannabis plant and was told it was a strain of tomato. LOL I don't even watch TV now hehe.

That so funny. I remember reading a grow book when cannabis was illegal. A tip to hide the plants was to put red xmas ornaments on them, to disguise them as tomato plants, lol

It is wonderful that you are able to give away the plants so others can grow and use. Such an amazing plant!

Follow me dude :)
