RE: Please discuss how you found out about Steemit and why you signed up!

in #earthnation7 years ago

It was a easy decision for me. Reddit turned its back on its ideals and its so obvious the system is being gamed over there.

I got into crypto a few months back and heard about Steemit and though it was pretty sweet. When binance started trading Steem a few weeks back i looked into it a little more and now Im here.

I will say that this community has been super cool and i love the idea of having my own blog that can grow with the project.

Steemit is great, the community is great, and Im super glad Im here.

Yes, I'm curious as to what exactly is goin on/ how reddit is being "gamed.." I came across Reddit a few years back; used it for a while, but never got too too into it. No where near the degree of involvement as I've had with Steemit..

Heres a link to a forbes article on the subject

And here is a guide to fourm spies and shills

Both inteteresting reads and good places to start

Wow. Before I even begin.. "forum spies and shills?!" Sounds freakin terrifying lol. Though, as we probably know, "the truth" often is... shiver. Just browsed through the forbes--seems almost obvious, now that it's in my face, that this was/ would be occurring... Very interesting. Though, likely a treacherous rabbit-hole to investigate lol

Im already so deep down the rabbit hole it doesnt matter to me lol

It is terrifying and Ignorance is bliss my friend, but how can we ever better the situation if we refuse to look at the true nature it?

I feel ya ;) and I agree... though the road to "truth" is, in my experience, can be quite lonely... It's an interesting paradox--being "right." By design, if you are "more right" than, let's say, a majority, on some particular issue, say--well, there is going to be precisely that many people (at least) who are going to be, in some sense against your idea--even though it is correct! . (Think something like Galileo here, and the earth/ sun relation.. Shit, there are even folks who I hear are going around attempting to convice people that the theory the earth is flat is a falsity and a "conspiracy" put together by "big science" and "the knowledge-power machine" (I made up that last word lol) to "trick" the masses into believing some kind of "elaborate scientific paradigm" that is, by design "over our heads," and comlicated; so we, the poor lowly peons, will have to "bow" to the "smart people." Something like that lol. (idk maybe this is your belief--i'm always open to new ideas!

Wow that is very interesting @rangerduffy. There are a lot of people on here that are current or former Reddit users. I am the same way, I really like the conversation and the wide array of opinions that you get here. I think's it almost the opposite of places like facebook because, at least in my case I personally know absolutely no one here. I don't even know someone from the same state I live in the US. Facebook is a cluster ----- of like people repeating the same thing to those that agree with everything, this is the opposite of that. Sometimes it's messy but it's amazing how it eventually works itself out.

Couldnt agree with you more iv actually been off facebook for about 6 years. I think i saw the echo chamber coming and I got nyself out of dodge as fast as possible.

Between that and now the fact that facebook is going to use snopes as a fact checking site for its news algorythms, Im pretty glad i got out.
