Earth Deeds: End of the Season but not for the pots...
With the busy spring gardening season I like to get a jump on it with bedding plants -
But what to do with all the plastic pots they come in?
Easy!
Return them to the greenhouses to reuse or reuse them yourself. Better yet if you are growing your own bedding plants try re-purposing old yogurt dishes or other plastic containers. That will work just as good if you poke some drainage holes in the bottom.
The two inch pots you see in the picture above I've been reusing for years now, growing tomato plants with the Pre-K kids. I also ask the community for donations of any 1 gallon pots they have left over from the gardening season to put the full grown Tiny Tim Tomato plants in so each child can have a tomato plant to take home (get them gardening early.)
What happens when they crack?
I will repair the slightly damaged pots with duck tape.
Those beyond repair can be used in the bottom of larger containers, I'm growing in, to give them better drainage.

we have been collecting plastic bottles around the city and using them to make what we now call UPB Tree Pots. UPB means upcycled plastic bottles and in it we are nursing and growing trees. Its better to repurpose and resuse than to buy new plastic. Great post!
