Pretty nifty footage! You must be tending that relationship well. Herons are actually quite sensitive to encroachment, I have noted.

People tend not to realize Herons are such effective predators. The trout nearly got away more than once, and the Heron was holding very tightly, as was evident by the wound on the trout when the Heron had to shift it's grip after nearly losing it's prey.

Another skillful thing the Heron did was to step away from the water, which would give it time to recover the trout should it have escaped the death grip completely.

Many people do not actually grasp the size of Great Blue Herons. That bird was tall enough to reach the chest of a full grown man, and it's wingspread probably wider than most men are tall.
