Introducing Steemir: Easily Monetize your YouTube videos On Steem

in dtube •  3 months ago

I am excited to announce Steemir! Steemir is a brand new Chrome Extension that helps you easily share your new YouTube videos on steemit.com.

How to use Steemir

Download and install the Chrome Extension:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/steemir/bgnfciidadaiacgdbklebabbchfngbgn

Enter your Steemit.com username and posting key, then click save:

Upload videos to YouTube as you would normally:

You can enter markup in the description and your hash tags will carry over to Steemit.com; be sure to check the Steemir checkbox to make sure your post uploads to steemit.com too:

A link to your steemit.com post is automatically shown:

Your steemit.com earnings, likes and and clickable links are then shown next to your YouTube videos, so you can keep track of them:

You can click on any of the links to open a new tab and bring you right to your Steemit.com post:

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Does this cost anything?

YouTube, Steemit.com, and Steemir are completely free; as you probably know, Steemit.com users generate income by posting content; the money comes from network usage, and there are no hidden fees. However, 25% of any

profits you make from earnings from videos uploaded with Steemir to Steemit.com will go to help fund Steemir. If you don't earn anything, you don't pay anything!

Invite your friends to get onboard Steemir, and for each one that installs Steemir we'll give you 5% more of the profit per video, up to 20% total, reducing the amount Steemir gets to 5%. Your friends will also receive 5% more per video, for

signing up with your referral link. You can find your personal referral link in the settings on the Steemir Chrome extension or go directly to referrals.

Or if you really enjoy Steemir and you feel like leaving a 5 star review on Steemir on the Chrome Extension site , please [send us a link]

(https://steemir.com/index#contact) to that review , and once verified, we'll send you a code to immediately receive the 20% total for your steem account!

2. How fast can I upload YouTube videos?

You can upload as many videos as fast as YouTube normally allows, but you can only post one video to Steemit.com every 5 minutes. Steemir does show a counter that shows how much time you need to wait if you want the video to post to Steemit.com

also.

3. Can I use Steemir to post my older YouTube videos too?

Not yet, but we are working on it! We are also working on adding scheduling that hooks into YouTube's video scheduling!

4. Are my videos decentralized?

Not yet! Currently only the link to your YouTube video is sent to the Steem blockchain, but that feature is currently in the works too, of getting a full backup of your video in a decentralized location using IPFS and/or WebTorrent technologies,

including also connecting to BitChute. Connecting to DTube is also a possibility but I have spoken with @heimindanger and he is not interested in connecting it up just yet, as he is already charging 25% per

video.

5. Can you add new features?

Yes, if you have ideas for improvement or new features, please send them to info@steemir.com . Many new features are already in the works, and you will be seeing them in future updates.

Support

If in case you find bugs or problems, or need technical assistance, you can search our knowledge base or open a support ticket, and someone will get back to you very quickly.

Long Term Goals

It would be great to ultimately not have to use YouTube in the future, and migrate over to decentralized video services such as BitChute.com, Dtube.video, Minds.com and vid.me. Much like the early travelers to the Americas, leaving their

homelands to escape oppressive governments, Steemir aims to ferry people over to the freer new platforms in comfort and style!

I held off adding more features just yet, as I didn't want the extension to be too confusing for newcomers. YouTubers that have never heard of Steemit.com may be overwhelmed enough, without introducing new concepts such as decentralized video,

and BitChute and DTube.

Please leave any comments for improvements below, or on our website, https://steemir.com

Thank you, and I hope you enjoy it!

Ray

Was there any reason for the two posts, (this one and another one 6 hours earlier), with the exact same title and subject matter?

·

Yes, to get the word out. One was listed directly on DTube, and another only on Steemit.com. There are so many posts on Steemit.com, it is easy to be quickly buried in cute cat pictures. Also, the videos were different, and I'm testing to see which one gets the most responses. Did you happen to see both posts or did you just notice that there were two after looking at my account?

·
·

Well, both posts show up on steemit. The only things different was the tags and videos. I can see where from your perspective it makes sense on the testing of the videos. However, you wouldn't know how effective it would be since other factors will affect their vote. The two posts are basically the same. I don't know if there are any rules against what you have done, but it raised a fairness alarm for me. Thanks for your response.

·
·
·

You're welcome. I still would like to know for marketing purposes, did you happen to see both posts or did you just notice that there were two after looking at my account?

·
·
·
·

I appreciate your feedback. As for fairness, my opinion is there is nothing inherently fair or unfair about posting the same article with 2 different videos; anyone else can do that if they want to. People will vote on what they value the most, and if two videos turn people off, they will vote them both down. I believe the quality of what I posted is 99% above what people typically post on steemit, so hopefully that will count for something. I wish you could have commented on the quality of the post or the product, as I welcome feedback, and I have put quite a bit of work into this, it is not just resteeming someone else's work to get free money, it is a product that could help bring new users to steem and increase its overall value in the future, by introducing it to YouTube users.

Is there a way to migrate my FB content to steemit?

·

nope sorry :( at least no yet @jovial-grace :) ... meybe in the near feature they would include that feature :)... Otherwise you can be a man .. and fuck facebook for good like i did
https://steemit.com/steem/@xoni/no-more-facebook-for-me

·
·

Thanks, I have faced and then turned my back on fooknuke too.

·

I could add that feature... although Steemit does limit posts to only one post every 5 minutes so it would take a while!

·
·

I think that'd be a cool feature!

How has nobody seen this yet??

·

Well it was just posted yesterday, and released the day before yesterday

It's a wonderful news, thanks, i already use dvideo and YouTube. Upvote)

Nice project, keep the good work.

Ray, it would be nice if you link to your personal profile on steem at the end of your posts. I found you on upwork (through the steemir website) but not here.

·

Thanks, good point, I will have to create a personal profile

·
·

Are you on steem.chat ? I am zinovi there :)

·
·
·

I have used it once before while chatting with the creator of Dtube, discussing this idea with him.

Looks exciting and the kind of app that can really help on-boarding YouTubers.

Are users logging in via SteemConnect? If not, what are the security implications of logging in through a Chrome Extension?

·

That's a great question, and I'll put it in the FAQ. The extension is just using your posting key, just like DTube does. Your posting key is saved in your browser storage and is never transmitted or accessible by any other sites. The posting key is transmitted using the official steem-js library to make a transaction to upload your post directly to the Steem block chain: https://github.com/steemit/steem-js. There is also an "Erase" button on the extension settings, so that if you are on a public computer, you can remove your posting key from that Chrome browser.

I have updated the Steemir faq and knowledge base with this question and answer. Thanks!

Fantastic. Resteemed.

·

Thank you!

Excited to see this! I'll check it out.

Great Idea, but 25% fee seems to high.

·

Thanks for the feedback! That is what DTube is currently charging. However, if you share Steemir or write a 5 star review, you can get the fee down to 5%.

Baby , i know , you're gorgeous and all of that , and if i was single , it would invite you to a date or smthng like dat ... but 25% like c'mon why?

·

Thanks for the feedback! That is what DTube is currently charging, 25%, only DTube doesn't tell you anywhere. However, if you share Steemir or write a 5 star review, you can get the fee down to 5%.

looking forward to trying this out. Sounds awesome and a bit like wildspark me. Will come back with more feedback. have resteemed

·

Thank you!

Anything that offers some options other than YouTube is great. I am all for supporting alternative resources.

About time. So freaking awesome.

·

Thank you!

This is amazing work.

Dtube holds too many issues for scalability and features. Your extension is a perfect work around without alienating other audiences. Vimeo, Vid Me, Bitchute would be great additions.

What about audio? Can this work on Sticher, or Soundcloud?

·

Thank you! I am plan on adding Minds.com, vid.me, bitchute, and I also forgot about Vimeo... thanks!

·
·

What you've made is a perfect solution to dtube's innevitable endings.

Vimeo is good for business owners.
Others are good for diversity and anti-censorship.

Another idea, can you allow for multiple accounts to log in, like Dtube does?

·

Yes, I can! I didn't want to add too many features yet, to not overwhelm YouTube users that have never even heard of Steemit, but I will put that in then next version. Thank you!
