Red Top Mountain Fishing - My first wild catch
My friend and I traveled to a new Wildlife Management Area, on this property are some large lakes. We walked the Iron Hill trail down to the water, and were lucky to have the place to ourselves. Though I can see why once we walked up to the water, it was very muddy and my shoes had some trouble with the soggy soil. I used a spinner rig on my pole, something we picked up from Cabelas awhile back.
Though luckily within a few minutes, I get a tug on my line! And this time around its not just caught on the lake floor, I got a fish. And this fish is special because it was my first catch in public lands. We think its a Bass of sorts, a Small Mouth or a young Striper.
We threw it back once I got the hook out, as it was too young. Felt real good catching it, next on my list is to catch a fish I can actually eat. Hah but still glad I got something. My friend did as well, a slightly smaller fish. So no Carps to bring home this time. Maybe next time, but none the less the sights at this Wildlife Management Area were great. And I hope to return some day.

@solominer I lived in Missouri for a while and fished for carp with the locals, they would take a box of special K cereal and mix a box of strawberry jello in the cereal, I can not remember if they put a little water but I am thinking no they did not. They formed small balls from the mixture and pressed the balls around their hook, we caught carp up to 20 inches. Give it a try. they would but a sinker swivel leader then hook.
@myjob oh nice. I'll need to give that a try next time I go Carp fishing. Amazing what ends up working.
