Man, I cannot imagine what you might be going through. I hope you get better, and FEEL better. Thanks for sharing this. FYI, the doctors in the U.S. don't always listen to their patients either. And insurance plans have almost guaranteed that they won't.

Thanks @blockurator I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some type of benefit from this crazy fast. At the moment I'm on day 5 and feeling sick as a dog but still time for it to turn around.

FYI, the doctors in the U.S. don't always listen to their patients either. And insurance plans have almost guaranteed that they won't.

I didn't know that about the states, I knew that the poor were massively screwed over there re medical insurance/care. The only reports on the medical stuff I get are from my uncle who lives over there, but he is rich. I'm guessing that is why I'm hearing good reports, cause his plan is a good one. Sounds like it's the same shit, different system. We are very lucky to have the NHS and I'm not angry at NHS per say but more at how strangled they are and also the arrogence of specialist doctors. Most doctors the world over seem to have pretty blinkered views about alternative medicine etc even when they're treating conditions which are known to be difficult with conventional medicine. Especially chronic conditions like these it is a pretty standard tale you will hear that a lot of people have been brow beaten by doctors into wrong diagnosis or negative prescriptions.

Anyway, I'm hopeful I'll figure it out :-)

One thing here in the states is, doctors are so afraid of making mistakes because they might sued, so they play it safe. They don't want to misdiagnose, which might also be a problem in the UK. I don't know. In the states, if anything goes wrong, there's attorney somewhere looking to secure a reputation. Insurance plans dictate medical procedures. If your uncle likes the system, it's likely because he's got good insurance. He may be rich enough to get by without it, though now, thanks to Obamacare, there's a penalty if you don't have it. Some people have opted to pay the penalty until it's no longer financially feasible, or in hopes that a Republican Party can overturn Obamacare (it won't). On the whole, rich people do have it better than poor people (though few will admit it even if they're aware of it). And that's true in just about everything.

Yay! This is so great, @raj808. I healed myself through an alkaline diet and juicing :) See if you can do grape seed extract for that bacteria.

Looking forward to hearing about your journey - good luck! Happy juicing!

Thanks for the recommendation, I have researched grape seed extract from your suggestion. What condition did you have, if you don't mind me asking @youhavewings?

It's such a complex thing trying to sort out gut issues and it is really difficult when you're left out in the cold by medical professionals to try and work it all out yourself when you've got cognitive issues caused by the underlying problems.

I'm just trying one thing after another in the hopes of hitting the right treatment/combination as the internet is full of conflicting messages and people trying to make money through affiliate links which makes it very hard to trust them. This is the thing that frustrates me the most, one side is doctors unwilling to work with you... and then you have the internet as a info resource which is full of people trying to make money lol. If I could sent one message out to medical professionals it would be to find the time to test some of the major alternative methods so that they can actually give some advice on them. Anyway, I think I have been unlucky with my doctors/consultants.

Thanks for your comment

I meant to say 'grapefruit seed extract' btw.

I 'had' a connective tissue disease and at the end they were just going to give me chemo to kill everything in my body to see what came back. By some strange occurrence of events a 'functional medical doctor's' name was given to me and she saved my life. I don't know if you have this kind of doctor where you are, but this is what you need. They use food as medicine, alternative therapies like vit c IV's, oxygen therapy, get your body chemistry working again to heal, utilize supplements and herbs, do appropriate testing, build your immune system up and your gut health. DETOX - is important but if you're very sick could be dangerous so they monitor your progress.

If you don't have such a doctor there, I would recommend a really good acupuncturist and for 'self education' and treatment, there are two websites that I recommend (man doctors use them, too! The good ones, anyway):

https://www.earthclinic.com/
https://www.curezone.org/

Interestingly enough, what you find with most treatments of disease (both serious and non-serious) is that the treatment is virtually the same. It's basically getting rid of the offense to the body and building the immune system back up - the body is an 'amazing' machine that is capable of healing anything if it's given the tools. Personally, I had the C IV treatments and that was the first thing in many years that moved my numbers. I was so weak that I couldn't complete a sentence without forgetting what I was saying three words in. So, this is serious medicine - I'm still here! :)

Grapefruit seed extract came to me when I read your post so check it out. Bone broth is also incredibly healing for the gut (although if you're vegetarian that might be a problem).

I think you'll find those two websites very powerful for what you need, though.

Thank you @youhavewings. All of this is very helpful and encouraging.

In regards to acupuncture and specialist doctors, they're all available in the UK... for a price. I have had acupuncture before for a back injury and found it helpful. I'm in a catch 22 situation though where the illness has severely limited my capability for work, meaning I can't afford to pay the people who could really help me. NHS (free UK health service) is a wonderful thing and I'm in no way against them... in fact I'd like to see them funded to the point where they can maybe help people with chronic diseases. But at the moment they're so underfunded that they will literally not put any money into any areas of care other than intensive care (life threatening). Quality of life, just isn't their priority, even at the far end of the scale where it is limiting someones ability to function in society.

Thanks again for your advice, it really is appreciated. I shall check out those websites :-)

I can tell you right now that 'fruit' of any kind, any sugar.. in any form, is not what you need right now - it will help the bacteria grow. That means staying away from 'carbs' too because carbs turn into sugar. Alkaline diet or Keto diet(very powerful).

I sure do hope you start feeling better. If you're dealing with bacteria in the gut, please also know that when you start these treatments (any), you're probably going to have some die-off which will make you feel pretty bad (flu like symptoms). Take it slow.

Ha ha, don't worry, I know all about die-off. I've been through countless exclusion diets where there were die-off symptoms and 3 courses of antibiotics which all had severe die-off. I'm really going for this juice reboot (10 day fast, no food, just juice). There is limited fruits, mainly green juice, although there is an odd kiwi and apple in the recipes but honestly I don't think that this is an issue as I'm literally cutting all foods other than micro-nutrients coming from the juice.

I have only just (a month ago) finished a course of antibiotics and have been taking a 'whole food' probiotic supplement for the whole month after the antibiotic treatment. There has been no changes in bloating/symptoms. By all logic the antibiotics should have killed everything in my gut then I have been replacing with the good stuff. This logical conclusion isn't what has happened which leads me to the conclusion that the bacteria is so entrenched that it just regrew/out performed the good bacteria or didn't even die under the course of antibiotics. I have an appointment with the GI consultant at the end of September but I'm not prepared to wait that long. There is 6 months wait between appointments here! Anyway, my logic with this diet/fast is simply to see what the effects are, I have strong will and am pretty bloody-minded so I can make it, but I know to listen to my body and will stop it if there are major problems.

I believe what I'm doing here could be considered a Keto diet. Anyway, the plan is to move to a much more balanced healthy diet after this fast and start again with the probiotics at that point also, see what happens :-)

P.s. If I can find the energy, I'm going to be posting daily update videos about my progress. Thanks again for taking the time to talk to me about all this @youhavewings.

Sounds like you've been through a lot. Good for you for researching and taking the bull by its horns.

One more suggestion ;) Kefir! The most sturdy good bacteria - they will kick most bad bacteria's ass LOL Get yourself some quality organic 'kefir grains' and make your own kefir (easy).

Apologies if too much information - you'll be like that, too once you feel better. I'm slightly bias.

Happy juicing and good luck to you on your journey to health - I have no doubt you'll get there

it looks so fresh

Ha ha, yes the picture looks good but the green juice I had this morning tasted a little bit yucky if I'm honest. Just gonna think about the benefits ;-) Thanks for your comment

This is all so interesting. I drastically changed my diet about a year ago, mainly for weight loss, but have noticed more strength and better immunity over all doing cold flu seasons.

Yeah... this juice fast, is fast getting very difficult ;-)

I'm hoping it may help starve out the bacterial overgrowth I have had for 6 years now but we shall have to wait and see. At the moment the only effect I noticed is vivid dreams about pizza and bad headaches. Thanks for your comment @donnadavisart

My heart goes out to you! I've been dealing with undiagnosable issues for ages now, and our boy has had ulcerative colitis since he was 18 months old (yeah, I know - apparently he should be in the record books for youngest diagnosis... ugh...). Bravo to you for taking charge of your own care (seeing as your doctors couldn't be bothered... another ugh), and I hope the juice cleanse gives you some relief.

And for what it's worth - I watched/listened to your video as I was putting away laundry, and I'd swear it was only five minutes long. You told your story extremely well (and that belly shot was a very brave thing), so please don't hesitate to do another video.

Sending lots of good thoughts your way!

Thanks for your comment and understanding @traciyork

It really is a problem (after a certain length of time especially) with medical professionals trying to pretend they know what is wrong and misdiagnosing rather than working with you on alternative research. At the end of the day, they don't have to live with it so (some of them) don't care at all. They see you as a problem they can't solve and they give up. I'm sure there are good doctors out there but I have only experienced the arrogant ones so far.

I'm sorry to hear you have expericned similar problems, you're not the first person on steemit I have met who has one of these quality of life chronic conditions. The gut seems to be the hardest to figure out. I will never give up and certainly won't accept any doctor telling me something isn't diagnosable. Anyway, I have taken the bull by the horns and made another video today :-)

I've been lucky, and have had a few medical professionals who seem to truly want to help, but have also experienced a fair share of the arrogant ones as well. And I can't wait to check out the video - I haven't been online much in the past few days, but I'll have time to play catch up tomorrow. 😊

hey Raj! i'm glad to hear a bit more about what you're going through. i agree there's such pressure to only share the shiny upbeat parts of our lives, but i think there is real merit in also working through our struggles for people to see and share in. in personal experience that's because other people can encourage or even shed light on what we're going through. it's no fun to feel alone and struggling! especially when, as in your case, you've gone to drs again and again and they keep pushing the same thing- i've been there and that is no fun!!

a few things popped into my mind.

  1. my mom, @birdsinparadise (who i hope will come over here and chime in) has committed this year to intermittent juice fasting for her and my dad's health. i know she had some gastro issues for a while that were misunderstood by the mainstream medical profession. i know the juicing has helped her in countless ways!
  2. i listened in your video, but i'm not sure if you ever mentioned it or if you've tried this (you probably have, sounds like you've tried it all and i can imagine you're quite tired of experimenting- kudos to you for continuing to do the research!) -- but probiotics? in the form of yes probiotic pills, but the cheaper DIY form is lactofermented veggies which is basically just immersing a vegetable (cabbage, carrot, beet, bean, kohlrabi, etc ad nauseam) into a saltwater brine? i would argue instead of cutting out dairy -lactose- or even gluten, PRO biotics is what can really help our digestive systems balance. just my two thoughts on this morning.

i'll look forward to see how your journey unfolds!

and i want to invite you to share this with the #naturalmedicine tag if you want- i think there are many people who would love to take part in your journey. also have i invited you to the discord? if not, i'll do so now!! the natural medicine community is a great place to share these stories on the blockchain with other likeminded individuals experimenting with their health :) <3, wren

Hi @mountainjewel

I've tried probiotics, both in supplement form and in the last 6 months with eating tones of sauerkraut & pickled veg... no joy. Whatever bacteria are set up in my gut are seriously entrenched, the likely hood of having probiotcs out perform them is slim. As I understand it, the good and (some of) bad bacteria feed off the same things - prebiotic foods. This is why I'm slightly hopeful on a juice fast as I'm pulling most sugars and 0% carbs out of the mix, ha ha and everything really other than micro-nutrients. Thanks for your comment and support, it means a lot.

P.s. I've joined #naturalmedicine discord and used their tag in this post now. It looks like a great community resource for people like me. Thanks again :-)

We shall see, I don't get my hopes up anymore as I've tried a lot of stuff. If it works then that will be amazing, and even more so as I fully expect not too. Like negative thinking for a test. You know what inspired this fast and the diet I'm going to implement was the thought of going to steemfest with these levels of energy. I'm really focused on working it out before Novemeber so I can have a blast instead of what most of my life looks like at the moment, which is bouncing from one period of reasonable energy to another of complete struggle. It's the cyclic nature of my fatigue which is the worst as I can be highly productive for a week or sometimes two if I@m lucky and then for 4-8 weeks zero energy and mad brain fog.

Gee @raj808, you are brave to share that with us. There's been so much news lately about the gut biome. I'm sure you've read it all, but as soon as I finish the blog I'm working on I'm going to do some investigating.

I'm not so honest about myself--let me just say I get it about the limited lifestyle. I get it about never knowing when the symptoms will flare. You do remarkable work, here, on steemit. I think sometimes the struggle fuels creativity, which you have in abundance.

I'll be following your juice challenge, and doing my reading. Good luck with this. I hate that illness.

Thanks @agmoore. It sounds like you are living with some type of issues which you'd rather not talk about. I respect that but just want to say, I hope things get better for you or have done if you're talking past tense.

Anyway, you're right about creativity, sometimes it can be fueled by hardship. I'm just fed up with the limits that this illness puts on me. If I wasn't still suffering with it, I'd be travelling the world as a digital nomad by now. Oh well.... just puts my plans on hold.

P.s. I just published a video update which I have tried to make fun :-)

Eager to see that video...:)

man... the pregger belly is the kicker. i sincerely hope this juice fast pans out for you. Good Doctors are few and far between. always best to take it into your own hands if you can.
brave man sharing all that.... raw and honest and human.

Cheers dude. Yep.... pregnant belly is a kicker.... but i haven't felt anything kick yet.

I'm doing my doctorate in juicology 😉 Not feeling too bad today apart from the fact I'm sat in a pub right now waiting on my friend who leaves liverpool to move down south tomorrow. They do roast dinners in here and Man it's setting off my Hunger pangs something Wicked 😂 Only on day 2 as well.
