I do love these and they are light enough to eat a handful of them! I loved them as a kid, but, haven't made them in a few years.

I know it's not the same, but it looks like it would taste similar to taking tortillas, frying them in a pan like you have (whole or in triangles) and dusting them with confectioners or my fav, a cinnamon and sugar mix. We call the elephant ears when we make them whole. doesn't take long to try once the oil is hot. Yum !
