In Flanders Fields by John McCrae
This poem gained worldwide recognition when it was published during WW1. It was written by a Canadian doctor serving at a forward aid station following the combat death of his friend. In frustration, after finishing the poem, he tossed it away and another soldier picked it up, read it and submitted it for publication. The soldier remains unknown but the author is well known. Major McCrae died of pneumonia before the war ended.
