My participation in World Suicide Day - Ma participation à la journée mondiale de lutte contre le suicide
I participated with 3 friends of mine to the world suicide prevention day. 100 km around the island of Tahiti for a good goal. Tahiti, instead of its image of little paradise has big problems of suicide with young people. Something called "the fiu" is a state of mind present in our islands that put young people (between 15 and 30 years old) to suicide. They live in the present moment and don't imagine things can be better tomorrow, so they act... In my job (Police Officer), I have seen a lot of people killed themselves and I chose to participate to this event to show that I think about them and I hope things will change...Participate to this hard event made me think about it during 4h18mn non stop...

J'ai participé avec 3 amis à la course cycliste organisée dans le cadre de la journée mondiale de lutte contre le suicide. Le tour de l'île de Tahiti était le Graal (115km) mais mes forces et mon mental m'ont abandonné au bout de 100km...Quand je suis passé devant chez moi!!
Tahiti, en dehors de son image d'île paradisiaque est confronté à un fort taux de suicide parmi les jeunes. Ce phénomène, appelé le "Fiu" est un état d'esprit présent en Polynésie qui pousse les jeunes âgés de 15 à 30 ans au suicide. Ils vivent le moment présent sans se soucier du lendemain et lorsqu'un événement particulier leur arrive (séparation, décès dans la famille ou autre) ils n'hésitent pas à mettre fin à leurs jours, pensant que ce problème est insurmontable. Ma profession m'ayant fait toucher de près ce problème à plusieurs reprises, je me suis décidé à participé à cette journée d'action pour montrer ma solidarité mais également mon espoir que les choses changent. Ma participation a duré 4h18 pour 100km dans un décor de rêve, empruntant la seule et unique route qui fait le tour de l'île. J'espère que vous apprécierez la ballade!
