THIS IS THE DEVASTATING EMAIL I GOT FROM YOUTUBE. ON TO D-TUBE NOW

in #dtube7 years ago

I am a small Youtuber and this is my Youtube channel. I monetized my Youtube Channel and money was already trickling in in small bits. I was happy that YT was supporting small creators like me who work hard to shoot and edit our own original content. Here is what the email read. Some tears were shed

Changes to the partner program

Today we are announcing changes to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). While our goal remains to keep the YPP open to as many channels as possible, we recognize we need more safeguards in place to protect creator revenue across the YouTube ecosystem.
What's Changing
Under the new eligibility requirements announced today, your YouTube channel, Jean Wandimi, is no longer eligible for monetization because it doesn’t meet the new threshold of 4,000 hours of watch time within the past 12 months and 1,000 subscribers. As a result, your channel will lose access to all monetization tools and features associated with the YouTube Partner Program on February 20, 2018 unless you surpass this threshold in the next 30 days. Accordingly, this email serves as 30 days notice that your YouTube Partner Program terms are terminated.
One of YouTube’s core values is to provide anyone the opportunity to earn money from a thriving channel. Creators who haven’t yet reached this new threshold can continue to benefit from our Creator Academy, our Help Center, and all the resources on the Creator Site to grow their channels. Once your channel reaches the new threshold, it will be reviewed to make sure it adheres to our policies and guidelines, and if so, monetization will be re-enabled.

On to Dtube

I will not even waste any more of my time on YT. I will make videos specifically for Dtube and then I will upload them on YT later because I still have an audience there. I feel like DTube is more promising for creators because we can make more money.

Have you been #demonetized by Youtube? What are your thoughts?

YT had a few advantages. On YT, you can upload 4K video and a video can go viral at a later date while DTube limits your payout to 6 days. With the new YT policy you can't get paid for a viral video unless you have 1000 subs and 4000 hours of view time, which means YT will be collecting all earnings if one of your videos goes viral, so your policy of uploading to DTube first and YT a week later makes perfect sense. Personally I may stop using YT altogether but haven't made up my mind on that yet. Greetings!

Thanks @onnovocks for these insights. I will upload on Youtube solely to store my content but I will have zero expectations as I am demonetized at the moment. What's your channel?

I subbed your channel, you will find me there. I shoot mainly low light live music of all kinds in Cafés because the big stage wasn't a challenge anymore. I'll be bringing my best stuff from Allen Hinds to DTube before long as well as hours of previously unpublished material that will not be on YT.

Lets all go to @jeanwandimi's youtube and subscribe. Whats steemit if we cant support each other., hehe , we may not make it up to the number required but atleast we can try. Who knows.

I did, but she will also need the 4000 hours of watch time, and that is harder to do. We'd all have to put Jeanwandimi's entire video collection in a playlist and put it on autoplay 24-7 for 3 weeks to get close. I do have several computers that could contribute about 500 hours per month, LOL.

Wow thanks so much for the support. @purpletanzanite and @onnovocks I think I also have to have a regular upload schedule and more content. I am sure I will get there in time. Cheers guys!

Subscribed.. good luck in getting there :) Meanwhile, see you on Dtube!

YouTube has certainly taken some unfortunate turns lately. I'm glad for dTube. Hope they can keep the doors open !!

I hope this will be a sustainable avenue for us.

Go for it dear, i think your choice is good, Best wishes to you!

Dtube is the new wave in town. YT should know when they àre beaten

The future is decentralised. Youtube just don't know it. But that's ok, dtube to the rescue.

Exactly. I hope the SBDrises and the payouts can make sense. :)

Sorry abòut that. Your spirit lives on! Tell us how we can help.
Cheers

I think subscribing would help. Thanks for the encouragement. At least there is dtube.

So sad, how unfair can it get? who will encourage upcoming talent?

I know it is so crazy.

Will support in both places. All the best!

Thanks dear. You rock.

Dtube is the future. Youtube will eventually be as irrelevant as Myspace. I'm also on Youtube actually, but I was never really big enough to bother with monetization. Steemit has really stepped it up for me in that regard. Dtube is the next step for me as well!

Same here. I am so thankful for Steemit although skeptical on longevity but meanwhile, as creators, we can make some income.
