African sunset - oil paint

in #dtube5 years ago (edited)

A clip by clip video showing the progress of an African sunset from my imagination. I painted this to try and show the technique of blending in order to produce the effects of a sunset. I used a small pallette knife and a few fan brushes to achieve the effect of light bouncing between the light and dark tones and used transparent paints for the final glazes which were painted wet in wet over a period of two days with the help of oleogel for the glazing and to keep it wet enough to keep working it. The main secret here is developing a set of colours that work well with each other and to keep the fan brushes clean after every three or four blend strokes. So loads of dry material to wipe brushes and different brushes for different colours and tones and of course patience. As it is very time consuming. I hope you enjoy the video. Some pictures may not be the best quality as they may have been taken at night but I had to try show the progress as I went along. I have also tried some zoomed in shots to give you an idea of what to look for before going that step too far and overpainting it.
