RE: This Is Not a Test (a #freeread for the @freewritehouse)
No drill would prepare us for something like this.
"Test", "normality", and "contractual obligations", key words that resonate here.
We are always put to the test by a society that insists on reminding us that part of what makes us human, civilized, is our capacity to remain calm and to orderly follow instructions and perpetuate normality, whatever that may be.
Like most speculative fiction suggest, normality is abnormal, is suspect.
Corporations and governments own us; they can do with us what pleases them and on top of that they demand patience, civility and normality.
In our case, they demand dialogue. In the meantime, Paul-like creatures approach menacingly, we are suphocating, and the building is falling apart; but we are supposed to remain calm and remember our contractual obligations with law and order.
You are very insightful :) Thank you for reading so deep into the story! I particularly agree with the following line:
But your entire comment is incredibly shrewd. Thank you.
Thank YOU for such a thought-provoking story.
