The language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 5, DTube Video #2

in #dtube6 years ago (edited)

Welcome to my Hebrew reading & language series. New chapter!

Continuing with Genesis 5:5-8

Chapter five started from the first human who was created. Male and female, "He created them."

Last week we stopped at the end of the page and missed the last word of the page. Seth came into the world and Adam lived 800 more years fathering other sons and daughters, and he died - va'Ya-mote in Hebrew.

We pick up from daughters, reading the first cycle of words that give us one bar on the chart below. They vary slightly. Each describes a person and their life, mentioning only the name of the age of the father, his first born and the death of the father, then moving on. The beginning of time until the flood, including angelic intervention of the worst kind then up to Abraham.

This is the clock my friends.

People were living a good 800-1000 years each.

You have eyes and a search engine, evidence of the flood is out there. We have found the Ark. There are clams that either climbed to the top of Mt. Everest or they were under water when they died, then the mountains were pushed up.

The Exodus crossing is mapped, with chariots and horses at the bottom of the sea, the oasis of "seventy palms and twelve wells" found on the way to the charred mountain top. The alter of the golden calf is there, the alter where bulls were sacrificed and the Rock, split by gushing water, stands over fifty feet high, showing boulders rounded by the water that flowed from it. If you choose not to see these things, that is called "willful ignorance" as to what the facts are.

Not a bad thing sometimes

I choose to willfully ignore videos of people killing themselves, which are rarely censored on the largest video hosting service. I also ignore videos that threaten people with a bullet to the head. I believe these things exist. I just do not want to have those images implanted in my memory.

If, however I were teaching my children that people never get shot or commit suicide and having debates about it saying, "that's nuts - not happening", then I would either need to take a look at the evidence or be willfully ignorant of the facts.

Long and boring?

The who-fathered-who part is less than two pages long before it breaks into some of the most interesting parts of history. The clock does continue for a bit after that followed by the flood story, more children, and on to Abraham.

Last week I started the upload at 6:00 in the evening and it was only half done at 1:00 a.m. so I posted when I woke up. (not optimal)

I expected the same this week, recorded it early, but dtube only took 2 hours on the uptake. Crazy trying to time it.

Oh yes @hebrew , I am very pleased with your next lesson and he gives me a deep understanding of Hebrew and Genesis in your beautiful language!
