What makes someone respectful?
What makes me worthy of respect?
This is a very subjective matter. But a rule of thumb I follow is a quote by Coach Ken Carter from the movie "Coach Carter" (2005):
"You will have my respect, until you abuse it"

YOU KNOW IT'S A LITTLE LIKE THE SITUATION IM HAVING WITH THE KIDS FATHER. HE TELLS THE KIDS HE HAS CHANGED, HIS NEW GIRL FRIEND SWEARS HE HAD CHANGED (QUIT DRINKING, STOP LYING ) SO HE TEXT ME THE OTHER DAY SAYING, "FRANCESCA, IVE COMPLETELY HAVE CHANGED AND IVE BEEN DOING SO WELL. I STARTED THIS OFF CORRECTLY AND IM HAVING SUCCESS", OK.... WELL IF YOU JUST WENT THROUGH THERAPY AND EVERYTHING IN YOUR LIFE HAS BEEN SO WONDERFUL, YOUR CONSCIOUS SO CLEAN.. IT'S BULL SHIT. HOW CAN HE TURN A NEW LEAVE WITHOUT SAYING, "FRANCESCA, IM SORRY FOR BEING A DRUNK AMD PUTTING YOU THROUGH MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABUSE FOR 6 YEARS. IM SORRY, IVE CHANGED, LET ME PROVE IT... NOT FOR A RELATIONSHIP BUT A FRIENDSHIP.. BUT HIS GIRL FRIEND ISNT CONCERN WITH HIS REAL WELL BEING, JUST WHATEVER SHE WANT TO SHAPE HIM INTO. HOW CAN SOMEONE STAND THERE AND SAY THEY HAVE A CLEAN CONCIOUS WITHOUT EVER TELLING THE MOTHER OF HIS CHILDREN, IM SORRY FOR HOLDING YOU CAPTIVE FOR TWO HOURS AND SMASHING YOUR FACE IN WITH A GUN. .... NO BUT HE CANNOT EVER BE OPEN AND HONEST, AND NEVER WILL CORRECT HIS WRONGS. HE'LL NEVER SAY SORRY BECAUSE SOMEHOW HE THINKS THE TOOTH FAIRY DID ALL THAT. THEN I HAVE TO GIVE THEM MY KIDS? BECAUSE HIS FAT PURSE IS PUSHING HIM? BECAUSE WOW, WAIT A GO DADDIO YOU WANTED TILL THEY WERE TEENAGERS TO DO ANYTHING, AND WAITED TO COME INTO MONEY... UGH... IM SORRY BLIND. rANT oVER
