RE: YouTube tightens the screws on creators and opens more opportunity for dTube

in #dtube7 years ago (edited)

My non-profit's account was demonetized, and seemingly just before they owe us our first payout for a video that received nearly 150k views and as a 20 minute video, got hundreds of hours of views. We have the viewing hours, but not quite enough followers yet. People can be really stingy about who they follow on YouTube (and I understand why, because YouTube notifies you via email every time one of the creators you follow uploads a new video! That gets annoying, let me tell ya!)

As far as dTube changing their payout policies...I agree that videos should be making more money. I have seemingly caught dtube's eye, and I think it's because I spend a lot of time on my thumbnail image, and I post consistently with easily consumable content, sort of funny, not too long, a lot of people can enjoy. The problem with some of the people that come to Steemit is that their stuff is very niche, like the videos I started releasing in the beginning. I had to tailor my content a bit to be more widespreadly viewed. Until dtube gets bigger, it is hard to upvote content that is really niche.

There are two other issues with this, and one is the problem with importing people from YouTube en masse. As small creators, this is awesome. I welcome small creators with open arms, and hope we have a lot of them beginning to produce great content and getting their due reward. The problem is that if the big guns see the little guys headed over, they will head over too, and it's a double edged sword. I have seen that the whales tend to bring the YouTube big guns to almost whale status within just a day of being here. They have not had to really interact/work with the community, the whales are just so excited to have "celebrities" on here, that they are heavily rewarded. It's good to get well known people on here, because that will bring a bigger audience. The problem, is that we just bring YouTube's problems over here. The little guys will never stand a chance against the big guys, and if they don't have to put any effort into their beginning here, will they really invest in the platform? Or will they just continue to most likely double dip, by making their content for Youtube and just reposting it here? It is a complicated situation...

I am glad you wrote about this, because you saved me an article. As soon as I got that email last night, my heart just dropped and I planned to write about it this morning. As far as the 7 day thing goes though, YouTube just evened out the playing field with dtube. If you can't make any money on YouTube, then it's worth it to take a chance on d.tube even if it's for just 7 days.

You should totally write that article or copy and paste this comment. :-P
I'm glad you are one of the few getting a regular dTube upvote, as you deserve it. And keep milking it for as long as it lasts. :-D
You picked up on the theme of the post which was too much focus on the big guys and not nurturing the small fry.
As haejin has proven, when you bring a few thousand upvoters and not content creators it can cause an unexpected shift in the Steemit Rewards Vortex.

And It's only a matter of time before we see a similar issue in dTube and no we don't want to have the same problems as Youtube. But maybe that's dTubes goal? We really don't have control over this platform.

Youtube is becoming more commercialized by the day. Just check out the Trending Tab which usually promotes about 50% mainstream TV shows, and I know that's not by popular demand, as other less mainstream channels are sometimes trending faster.

And although I enjoy your lengthy replies, you should totally turn them into posts and just link here in the comments. You might as well turn your words into money :-D

Yes. I am definitely going to start using D tube more. You tube is turning inyo a bunch of nazis. Does D tube have a video editing option where you csn overlay music onto the video yet?
