Welcome To Earth - Cigar (Analog)
This is an analog version of a short glitch movie / animation I made from the movie Independence Day. This further reduces the piece into an analog form that can be viewed without electronics.
I think of it as a statement of the flaws of technology to capture the soul of humanity and the distortions that people place on what they hear and see. In that it is a statement on the false belief that Will Smith and people of color in general are of lower intelligence. There is an incorrect meme that quotes Will Smith as saying "Welcome to Earf".
Its path to this state is most circuitous. This was made by running a single VHS tape of Independence Day through two VCR decks. The output from both was put into the input of one TV. Then the image was recorded.
I typically display this work on an iPod screen or large monitor. In a particular venue I was unable to procure access to an electronic screen to play the work.
At the urging of a friend the solution became a flip book like device found on ThingiVerse Flip-it!. So now it even has more glitch.
