Exploring Masculinity - Expectations of men in relationships (Part 1)
Apologies that this is having to come in two parts - my computer doesn't have enough RAM to upload an hour and a half of audio! Next part coming later tonight :)
Today was a full on, straight up hour and a half about men in relationships. We covered quite a lot today. We began with the expectations of men in relationships, where we find ourselves being naturally chivalrous and wonder what women think. Then we lead onto Men in abusive relationships and the warning signs to look out for. We understand that it's not widely recognised because men don't talk about it. Further on in the podcast we cover what it means to change who you are for someone else and is that necessarily a good thing? I try to explain how you can keep the essence of who you are but changing and moulding through stages with your partner. Then Alex has something to say to self-proclaimed 'Nice Guys', some tough love from Alex and hopefully a reflection to those who think women should sleep with them for being 'nice'. Good podcast today, we thoroughly enjoyed it!

This reminded me a lot of Lewis Howes’ book ‘Mask of Masculinity’ which explores the various ways in which modern masculinity shapes and mounds itself as a result of external factors and perceived notions of what it is that constitutes “being a man” in today’s society.
Like his work, your discussion surrounding men in relationships took a refreshingly unique perspective. I was engaged regarding the concept of abuse as it’s something, again, not often associated with masculinity and often times portrayed as being an issue that only affects women in relationships. Overall, great work with this post.
