RE: Story-by-Photo Contest #10 - In Vino Veritas...
A beautiful story indeed!
Erm... We, as Muslims are not allowed to drink. I'm sure there would be other ways to reveal one's true self other than indulging. Erm...may be, I can hypnotise him. LOL
Here is a couplet in urdu which futher elaborates the theme of your story
سب کہ زندگی کی خموشیوں میں غم ہی چھپا ہوتا ہے
شراب کے ہوشوں میں حقیقت یہ پیش آتی ہے
All the sorrows of life are hidden in its silent moments,
In the intoxication of wine, the truth is revealed.
The verses reflect the duality of life, where deeper truths may be revealed in unexpected or altered states.
Of course, one can also tell and show the truth without drinking alcohol. It's just that if someone is trying too hard to put up a façade, then drinking alcohol can disinhibit them - and they become careless. I think that's where this saying comes from.
And yes, I am aware of the ambivalence: even in our criminal law, drunkenness is still often considered a mitigating circumstance (insanity...).
Yes, I did understand that!
Just saying... For the sake of humour 😊
There are several saying/verses in our poetry that imply the same.
