Good day fellow Steemians!

Today I would like to share my official entry for this weeks #Drawitbetter #7 contested hosted so vigilantly by @sirsensei. Thank you for that. When I do have some extra time, this contest has really inspired me to start drawing again.

The other thing that inspired me was my recent acquisition of a Wacom Intuos Pro Paper via my work. So please bare with me as this was my first attempt at using a drawing tablet. And if I may, what a weird experience this was... Drawing somewhere whilst looking somewhere else is really a skill on it's own.

The Process

Experimental Phase

Keeping in mind that this is my first time, I quickly drew some outlines of reference, and then started experimenting with some of the different Photoshop brushes.

Filling Phase

After finding a couple of default brushes I liked, my goal here was mostly to fill up most of the empty space with colour, giving me something to work with.

Depth & Shading Phase

Here I started to add some dark vs light contrast, trying to create some more depth within the image. Clearly visible on the beak and shoulder.

Texture Phase

My intention here was simple to add more details and play with some textures to really bring out the "feather" feel in the parrot. Found some very nice texture brushes. Visible on the beak and neck, center right.

There it is, a majestic Magenta Parrot

love it mate! Looks really fresh! :)

Thanks you! It was mostly a learning experience at the moment. Still trying to figure out the best way to set up PS, which brushes and techniques to use where, etc. But between Youtube clips and pressing random buttons I am slowly getting there. :P

haha i have a very very long and slow and really not so good tutorial on how to set things up in photoshop.. i kind of hate it myself but i think it does cover everything! :D i remember i was really tired and sick when i recorded it XD so it is a bit hard to get through.. but if you are interest i can link you ;D

Sure that would be great. It's kindof a weird entry barrier... I got the Wacom, super excited, set it all up and then went... what now?

What do I draw in? PS? I use the first brush I find, it has an annoying round edge which feels very unnatural, what size do I draw? What colours do I use? How you I trace beautiful outlines without making it look jittery? etc. etc.

You would think the barrier to entry would rather be the quite expensive drawing tablet (I got it from my company as a gift for recruiting someone btw, it would not fit into my budget). But somehow the thing that delayed me was actually getting the time to sit down, research a good setup, and actually go set it up.

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed drawing with it, and even though it's a bit disjointed looking one place, and drawing somewhere else, it felt natural quite fast.

Hi buddy. Nice work, as always! Good luck with the contest & thank you for joining in!
