Where it all began - my first drawings (part 1)
It was 2002 and I was in Portugal spending some time in a small village named Bucelas. I was fasting for the very first time in my life and to me this challenging but also invigorating at the same time. It brings about a very noticeable quietness inside, and this it seems, was the key to what started off my drawing. I mean...I felt like drawing, just putting pencil to paper and letting it flow.
So I borrowed a pencil and some paper, lay down on the floor and began. I drew in the direction that felt right. This was the result:
I looked at it and wondered to myself, what could it be? I turned it upside down, on both sides and then noticed what looks like a volcano/mountain and the head of a native american. I called it 'The Indian Mountain' This was interesting, so I decided to try again:
Again, after I had finished I looked at it and wondered to myself what could it be. It looks like an armadillo doesn't it? or is it an anteater? It could be anything in fact, but to me It was an armadillo, so I called it that... 'Armadillo'.
I wasn't finished there, this was becoming something very enjoyable. I never erased anything or decided that that part was in the wrong place. I just drew, then finished drawing. My third piece came out different to the first two. This is it:
This one I named 'The immortal Door'. Well it does look like a door to me.
Part 2 is here... I started to make them more detailed
Interesting process, looking forward to seeing the next stage.
