Dpoll 30: Do you rather cure yourself instead of visiting a doctor?
There was a time doctors were Saints and... had their own pharmacy.
We believed what the doctor diagnosed, not asked for a second opinion and took the medication given to us.
As the pharmacies came they partly took over the doctor's job.
If the doctor prescribes A they give you B (in many cases in our country not because it is a cheaper medication or better but because the insurances told them to give first what patients have to pay for themselves!).
It is the pharmaceutical industry that decides what you are allowed to take.
Next to this, the Netherlands has a large assortment of medication you can buy without a prescription.
They cost the same, you have to pay the full price and it does not work as good as the ones the doctor prescribes with the same name. Antihistamine is a good example of it.
By now doctors seldom are willing to pay you a visit if you are ill.
You are also not allowed to drive to the ER/First Help of a hospital without the permission of your doctor.
Even worse you cannot speak to a doctor after 4 or 5 pm. A helpdesk decides if you are ill and... it makes many mistakes if it comes to the diagnosis.
My granny exchanged medication with her friends.
I save all my old meds too.
Some doctors collect old/not used medication to give it to patients who cannot afford to buy them.
Would you visit a doctor easily under the given circumstances or try to heal yourself?
Note they only have 10 minutes time for you and you need to wait 5 days till three months till the doctor has time for you.

Nowadays I rarely have any health problems, but when I do, I usually try to wait first, for example for a wounded part of my body to heal itself. And if that is not happening, then I go to the doctor, and I accept the medication. If the doctor prescribes A, then the pharmacies are always giving me A, not B.

It depends on what I need curing. I'm not going to take some home remedy to cure cancer.
@chunkysoupsvc understandable, I doubt you can buy a home remedy for it. Although you can choose to pass too. You cannot live forever. Thanks for voting.
